Breaking Down & Predicting The G1 Climax 30

Written by Ben Hercik
Picture
It’s a little later this year, but it is finally time for the 30th edition of the G1 Climax in New Japan Pro Wrestling. With all the craziness that has been going on in the pro wrestling world, it feels nice (at least to me) for a bit of a return to normalcy with the running of this tournament. 20 (or really 18) of the best wrestlers that New Japan has to offer, and they are all fighting for one prize, a shot at the main event of Wrestle Kingdom 15 to challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. The winner this year will be penciled in to face the current champion Tetsuya Naito, who is also the current IWGP Intercontinental Champion.

Rated R For Return: How After 9 Years, WWE Got Its Edge Back

Written by Ben hercik
Picture
Sports fans remember where they were when historic things happen. They remember where they were when Michael Jordan took ‘The Shot’, when Dwight Clark made ‘The Catch’, and when the ‘Miracle on Ice’ happened. The same can be said for pro wrestling and it’s fans. Ask a fan where they were when The Undertaker’s Wrestlemania streak ended, when the Attitude Era began, and when CM Punk delivered his Pipe Bomb promo. If you ask any wrestling fan where they were on April 11th, 2011, they would be able to tell you where when Edge announced his retirement from in ring competition.

Destino Achieved: The Tetsuya Naito Story

Written by Ben hercik
Picture
January 5th, 2020, Tokyo Dome. The second night of Wrestle Kingdom 14. Tetsuya Naito had won the IWGP Intercontinental Championship from Jay White on the first night of the two night event to start his fourth reign with the title. But Naito wanted more, and he had the chance to achieve just that. For the first time in New Japan history they were going to crown a double champion, where a wrestler would be both the IWGP Heavyweight and IWGP Intercontinental Champion. All that stood in Naito’s way from achieving this feat, the Rainmaker and ace of New Japan Kazuchika Okada. Given how New Japan had booked Naito ever since he returned, fans thought that Naito’s time at the top of the promotion would never come. He’s had so many chances, yet he never was able to get over that hurdle. Fans thought that the January 5th would just be another of those shots that came up short for Naito. But then, Naito hit the fourth Destino. The referee counted three, and Okada stayed down. ‘Stardust’ began to play, and Tetsuya Naito had finally done it. Eight years, fans waited eight years for the culmination of this story, and we’ve finally gotten to it.

Best & Worst Of WWE: 2010’s

Written by Hugh fort
Picture
So that’s the 2010s done. And boy, has there been a lot of wrestling. In fact, literally as I write this week’s Smackdown is on in the background – it literally never stops. But has it been a good decade for WWE? Well, in anything where there’s a much of everything as there is in the monolith that is WWE there are going to be some very good bits, some good bits, some bad bits, and some very bad bits. We’re going to have a look at some specific examples of storylines and some times where WWE has come up with some great writing and ideas which have made wrestlers look like badasses. We’re also going to look at the inherent problems within the company and some of the really terrible things they’ve come with in the past 10 years. There have been more than 500 Raws, more than 500 Smackdowns, plus more than 100 PPVS, a hell of a lot of NXT and an absolute shedload of social media to get through
We’ll look at the best first, as we’re positive types here. It is important to point out that I’ll be looking at ideas and concepts that started off as brilliant, rather than looking at how they ended or how they’ve been booked.

Wrestlekingdom 14 Predictions

Picture
It’s the biggest show of the year for New Japan Pro Wrestling, Wrestle Kingdom 14! All year we see wrestlers from New Japan go through all the hurdles of the New Japan Cup, the Best of the Super Juniors, the G1 Climax, World Tag League, all the tours just to get to the Tokyo Dome. This year, with all the talent that New Japan has, the event expanded from one day to two days, taking place from January 4th and 5th. It’s a lot of matches and a lot to talk about, so lets get right into it.

Breaking Down & Predicting The World Tag League 2019

Written by Ben Hercik
Picture
As the year in pro wrestling winds down, that means we get the final annual tournament from New Japan Pro Wrestling in World Tag League. Last year’s outing for this tournament was very lackluster, so hopefully this year will be better. We have a few interesting pairings, a trio of two time World Tag League winners, and the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions in the tournament. One of the very few flaws that New Japan has right now is the fact that they don’t focus on their heavyweight tag team scene a lot, as there is only about four or five teams that are seen as legitimate threats in the division. Maybe that can change this year and we see some new partnerships made and kept for the road to come. The winners get an IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship match at Wrestle Kingdom 14, so there is a lot on the line for the 15 teams in the field that aren’t the champions. Let’s jump right in and see who I think will be raising those trophies high at the end of the tournament and getting the match at Wrestle Kingdom.

Superstars That Could Go To NXT

Written by Ben Hercik
Picture
With NXT going to TV, it is going to be a rather interesting development and it’ll be interesting to see how the brand develops with the changes that it will be making. While transitioning from a one hour taped show to a two hour live show is not that big of a change for the competitors, it will be a big change for a bit of a smaller roster. I think that the roster is super talented, but their isn’t a ton of established main event or midcard wrestlers on the roster. You know where there is a bunch of established wrestlers that are severely underutilized? The Raw and Smackdown rosters.

Breaking Down & Predicting The G1 Climax 28

Written by Ben Hercik
Picture
It’s time for one of, if not the biggest singles tournament in the pro wrestling year, the G1 Climax. This year is the 29th edition of the tournament, and it stacked from top to bottom with talent. You have multiple former tournament winners, former IWGP Heavyweight Champions, former finalists, and many things in between. This year's tournament features the return of a former tournament regular in Lance Archer, and a lot of tournament debuts. The likes of Taichi, Jeff Cobb, Will Ospreay, KENTA (fka Hideo Itami), and Jon Moxley (fka Dean Ambrose).

Meet The AEW Roster

Written by Ben Hercik
Picture
With Double or Nothing happening on Saturday, I figured it would be a great idea to take a look at the wrestlers that have signed with All Elite Wrestling. A new company is always nice to see, but one of this magnitude has not been seen since the days of WCW. Will AEW challenge WWE? Yes. Will they run WWE out of business? Not a chance. Will they push WWE, and Raw specifically, to be better? Absolutely. Wrestling fans around the world will be the winners, as we will see a great product from AEW, and a rejuvenated WWE with a new challenger to their wrestling throne. So who exactly was considered all elite for this company? I could just talk about Cody, Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks and Chris Jericho with their high up spots in the company, but let's take a look at some of the other names in the company, and some names that you may not have heard of before. Maybe help you find some new favorite wrestlers. While we all know the Bucks, Omega, Jericho and Cody, let's meet the rest of the roster.

Predicting and Breaking Down The Super Strong Style 16 Tournament

Progress Wrestling is one of the best independent wrestling companies in the world. You look at their all time wrestlers roster, it reads as a who’s who of recent wrestling history. Names like Marty Scurll, Will Ospreay, El Ligero, Jimmy Havoc, Pete Dunne, Tyler Bate, Trent Seven, Toni Storm and Travis Banks have all been with the company for so long, and have helped shape the company to what it is today. Since its creation, Progress has become a promotion that is more and more talked about. Since partnering with WWE, more and more people seem to be taking notice to this promotion, and it is well worth the watch.

Predicting The Post Wrestlemania Call-Ups

Written by Ben Hercik
Picture
It is that time of year again, Wrestlemania week! This is one of the best weeks to be a fan of pro wrestling, as you have multiple shows from multiple promotions. This weekend, we have three huge shows back to back to back on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. NXT Takeover Blacklist, Ring of Honors’ Supercard of Honor, and obviously, Wrestlemania 35 itself. As great as that weekend lineup is, one of the more excitable portions of the week happens the two days after Wrestlemania, the NXT Call ups. Some call ups have panned out amazingly, with the best examples coming to mind being Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch. Others flopped miserably, like Enzo and Cass.

Predicting The Matches For NXT Takeover Brooklyn 5

Written By Ben Hercik
Picture
We are officially on the Road to Wrestlemania! This is a fun time of year, and with it we see the end of some stories and the begining of new stories. This year, it is tough to predict the actual matches for Takeover, as you will see, a lot of the usual big names are all used very late or being called up after the show. But I have tried to put together a respectable Takeover card for the Friday before Wrestlemania. So without further adieu, here is my card for Takeover Brooklyn 5.

Wrestle Kingdom 13 Predictions

Written By Ben Hercik
Picture
It is time for one of my favorite events of the year, Wrestle Kingdom. I am like one of many newer New Japan fans, only really getting into NJPW when I first watched Omega vs Okada 1. I did take the time to watch a lot of older shows. I got to witness my first Best of the Super Juniors and G1 Climax this year. In this years Wrestle Kingdom, there is the lingering question surrounding the members of The Elite. They announced that they will be starting up All Elite Wrestling, and their is still a ton of questions to ask, the main one for me is will the promotion have a working relationship with New Japan, like Ring of Honor does. But that’s the future, lets start to look at the event at hand, Wrestle Kingdom 13. There is a lot to look forward to on this card. You have good wrestlers, great matchups, and New Japan doing something great for one of the companies that they work with. Revolution Pro Wrestling is being represented with Tomohiro Ishii defending that companies Heavyweight Championship on the show against Zack Sabre Jr. You have names like Kenny Omega, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Will Ospreay, Kazuchika Okada, Chris Jericho, Jay White, Tetsuya Naito, and so many more on just one card. I am really excited for this show so let's jump right into it.

Top 10 Women Wrestlers Of 2018

Written By Ben hercik
Picture
2018 was a great year for women’s wrestling. You had women main eventing main roster TV shows, main eventing pay per views, and even WWE having their first ever Women’s only pay per view. Promotions like Stardom, Shimmer, and Sendai Girls Pro Wrestling put on steller shows with only female talents. I think that women’s wrestling is one of the most fun things to watch now, considering where WWE and Impacts’ women’s division (the only wrestling with tv deals in the US) was just a few years ago. Narrowing down the top 10 was a tough task, but I think this is the best possible list for 2018.

Top 5 Disappointments Of 2018

Written By Ben hercik
Picture
What a great year for professional wrestling it was in 2018. We had phenomenal matches, wrestlers making names for themselves, and some great events. This year might have been one of the best years of professional wrestling in a little while. However, with all the good there is also the bad. There was some poor performances, and bad moments. Thinking of 5 of the most disappointing things from this year was harder than I thought it was going to be. There was very little that was bad, but I think that I found the 5 that I think are the most disappointing of 2018.

Are WWE Trying To Recreate The Attitude Era?

Written By Ben Hercik
Picture
A little while ago, I put out a tweet during Survivor Series after Charlotte Flair attacked Ronda Rousey wondering if the WWE is indirectly trying to recreate the Attitude Era. A lot of people liked the idea so I started to dig and I found a lot of examples. Now are these one for one examples, meaning that they are exactly the same, no. But some of the attributes are tough to miss. This is going to be a long one, so let's dive right in.

How WWE Could’ve Booked Evolution

Written By Ben Hercik
Picture
Evolution just happened, and overall it was a great time. We had the nostalgia factor, great heel work, a lot of face wins, and mostly great matches. The only issue is that the card could’ve been so much better than what we ended up getting. That’s not to say that the final product we got was bad, but it could’ve been better. A few more matches, a lot more build, and a new title would have made the card a lot better than we got.

WWE Evolution 2018 Predictions

Written By David Ayres (c) & Ben Hercik
Picture
Evolution is tomorrow night, WWE’s first ever all women’s card and the card is good. The build is another situation entirely with WWE seemingly more focusing on Crown Jewel which is on Friday. It felt like WWE forgot about this PPV which in turn made other people forget about this PPV. David Ayres defends his title for the first time ever and former champion Ben Hercik takes his rematch. Will David Ayres be a transitional champion or will his reign last in memory?

Revisiting The WrestleKingdom 13 Card

Written By Ben Hercik
Picture
First thing first, yes this is a long card, but if Wrestlemania can be 67,438 hours long and have 14 matches, then Wrestle Kingdom 13 can have a 13 match long card. The original article was posted on July 4th, and its been 3 months and we are just over 3 months out from the event. After recent events, many of the matches have changed, with only one main card match being the same as last time. So let’s look at my updated Wrestle Kingdom 13 card predictions.
