WWF Wrestlemania 6 Review
It's 1990 and this year's Wrestlemania features one of the biggest main events of all time. Hulk Hogan vs The Ultimate Warrior. Champion vs Champion. Title for Title. The WWF Champion vs the Intercontinental Champion. Two biggest stars in wrestling history collide for all of the gold! Besides this huge match, Wrestlemania VI had a card that on paper looked to be an underrated card. Star studded matches and with the right buildup at the time, Toronto Canada was in store for a big show. How did Wrestlemania VI turn out overall? Let's find out!
The event kicked off with the late singer Robert Goulet singing the Canadian National Anthem in what was a great performance. Fans applauded the man as he performed without a hitch and got everyone hyped up for the show!

Koko B. Ware Vs. Rick Martel
Well, not exactly a banger of a match to start off the show. Koko got some offense in but mainly Rick Martel had the match under his belt. Not much to note here other than the finish where Rick applied the Boston Crab for the submission victory.
The Colossal Connection (C) Vs. Demolition (WWF Tag Team Championships)
Match started off slow but picked up along the way as the action started to get a little better. Fans were behind Demolition throughout the whole match and also, there was some miscommunication between Andre The Giant and Haku. Andre at one point grabbed Smash and held him up for Hauk to cheap shot him in the face, but the tables would turn as Smash ducked and Haku ended up nailing Andre in the face, causing him to get tangled up in the ropes! Demolition would then execute their finisher, known as the Decapitation, on Haku and they pick up the win! Fans exploded as Demolition became the new WWF Tag Team Champions and this was a great moment for them. However, tensions continue to rise as Bobby Heenan furiously began yelling at Andre as he blames him for the title loss of his team. Andre tried explaining that he was kicked in the face by accident, but Heenan wasn't having it. Heenan then made a huge mistake by slapping Andre across the face, clearly pissing off The Giant then Andre retaliates by grabbing Bobby and began to slap him a few times in the face! Haku comes in to help Bobby but Andre takes him out too, then he headbutts Haku by the entrance ramp and leaves as he stands tall at the end of everything that has transpired between the three!
Earthquake Vs. Hercules
Decent match as these two big men collided with such intense action. Hercules attempted to lift Earthquake a couple of times but couldn't achieve that goal as Earthquake would diminished his attempts plenty of times. Hercules did get Earthquake down to one knee a couple of times but that was all he could do to get the big man down. Earthquake did get Hercules down on the mat then executed the Earthquake Splash for the three count victory. Earthquake would then hit another Splash on Hercules for the second times as he wanted to leave a mark in the ring. Jesse "The Body" Ventura even called this the after shock.
Mr. Perfect Vs. Brutus ‘The Beefcake’ Barber
Good match between these guys. With The Genius by his side, Mr. Perfect mainly tried to toy with Beefcake but Beefcake wasn't have any of that. Lanny Poffo distracted the referee at one point as he allowed Perfect to grab the diploma that he usually carries around, then Perfect hits Beefcake right in the face for a close near fall. Beefcake made a comeback and squared up with Perfect for the remainder of the match and had the fans behind him every step of the way. The finish was actually underwhelming to me as Beefcake slingshots Perfect into the turnbuckle but Perfect overshoots the turnbuckle and hits the ring post. Beefcake then pins Perfect and just like that, he scores the win. Brutus Beefcake emerged victorious then attacks The Genius afterwards by putting him in the Sleeper Hold and celebrates with the crowd.
Roddy Piper Vs. Bad News Brown
This match is mostly famous for Roddy Piper sporting a look where the right half of his body was painted in black. Piper clearly tired to get in Brown's head with this look but didn't work that well as Brown came swinging at him once the bell ranged. Midway through the match, Piper pulled out a white glove from his tights and began hitting Brown with it, even having Jesse Ventura questioning if this was legal in the match. Action spills outside of the ring where Piper ducks from a punch by Brown, causing Brown to hit the ring post. Piper then grabs a chair and swings it at Brown but Brown ducks and suddenly the referee calls for the bell. This match ended in a no contest but both guys didn't care as they continue to brawl to the back.
The Hart Foundation Vs. The Bolsheviks
Nikolai Volkoff was in the middle of singing the Soviet National Anthem when Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart ambushed the two of them from behind to start the match. Suddenly, Hart and Neidhart nailed Boris with the Hart Attack for the quick victory.
The Barbarian Vs. Tito Santana
This was an okay match as Tito Santana brought so much agility to the mix. He almost had Barbarian beat but Heenan put his foot on the bottom rope for the breaking of the pin. Barbarian then climbs to the top rope then nails Tito with a WICKED Flying Clothesline for the pinfall win!
Randy Savage & Sensational Sherri Vs. Dusty Rhodes & Sapphire
Before the matchup began, Dusty Rhodes graced us with an appearance by Randy Savage's former manager Ms. Elizabeth! The match itself was fine for what it was as it was mainly a scuffle between Sapphire and Sherri. Rhodes and Savage battle for a bit but whenever the women would get involved, that's where fans would get majorly invested in it all. Sherri notices Elizabeth at ringside and attempted to brawl with her but Elizabeth didn't back down and pushed Sherri for Sapphire to trip her and pinned her for the win! Dusty Rhodes and Sapphire emerged victorious and they would celebrate along with Ms. Elizabeth in what was a great moment!
The Orient Express Vs. The Rockers
Not much really went down during this match it was mainly slow paced. Mr. Fuji distracted Marty Jannetty to the point where Jannetty confronted him at ringside. As the referee was distracted, this allowed Sato to throw salt into Jannetty's eyes and blinded him, to the point where Jannetty couldn't get back into the ring in time and was counted out. The Orient Express would pick up the victory.
Jim Duggan Vs. Dino Bravo
Short match as Dino hand Duggan under control for most of the match. Duggan made a comeback til Earthquake tried to hand Dino Duggan's 2x4 wood. Duggan grabbed it instead and nailed Dino in the back with it then suddenly picks up the win! Earthquake and Dino with ambush Duggan afterwards as Earthquake would hit his Splash on Duggan multiple times, leaving the man laid out on the ground.
Ted Dibiase (C) Vs. Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts (Million Dollar Championship)
My goodness, this match was just a bore I'm sorry. Not much really went down during the match as Jake Roberts had total control for almost half of it. One thing that did happen was the crowd doing the wave and that was incredible to see in such a huge venue like the Skydome. Crowd finally came alive for this match when Ted Dibiase tried pinning Roberts but Roberts would reverse it into a pin attempt of his own. From that point on, Roberts had the crowd by his side and almost had the opportunity to secure the Million Dollar Championship. Jake Roberts teases for the DDT but Dibiase grabbed the referee's leg and this caused Virgil to pull Roberts out of the ring. Jake attacked Virgil but Dibiase applied the Million Dollar Dream then tossed Roberts to the ring post. Dibiase went back into the ring and the referee counted Roberts out, causing for Dibiase to retain the Million Dollar Championship via count out! Dibiase and Virgil would celebrate until Roberts came in and attacked them both, laying Dibiase out with the DDT while Virgil bailed to the back. Roberts topped this all off by bringing in his pet Damien but Virgil came back out and dragged Dibiase out of the ring. Jake Roberts might've not won the Million Dollar Championship but he would win in defeat by having the fans cheer him no matter the outcome.
Big Boss Man Vs. Akeem
As Big Boss Man made his way to the ring, Ted Dibiase somehow was still at ringside and would ambush Boss Man before the match. Match officially began and Akeem would take control over Boss Man until he started making a comeback. After a short exchange of blows, Boss Man would nail Akeem with the Bossman Slam for the win!
Next we had an impromptu music performance by Rhythm and Blues (Greg "The Hammer" Valentine and the Honky Tonk Man) as they performed their song, "Honky Honky Honky Love". They came out along with Jimmy Hart and a few women on the back of a pink Cadillac, which was driven by the one and only DDP! Their performance was just not that good to be honest. Total time filler if you ask me. Their performance would then be interrupted by The Bushwackers as Valentine and Honky Tonk Man would run away, leaving their guitars behind. Bushwackers Luke and Butch would play with the guitars then destroyed them as they didn't care about any of the instruments overall.

Jimmy Snuka Vs. Rick Rude
This was basically a filler match before the main event. Jimmy Snuka was starting to gain some advantage but Rude quickly overturned that. Rude then suddenly nails the Rude Awakening for the win, then Jimmy Snuka immediately got back up as he no sold the finishing move which was hilarious.
Hulk Hogan (C) Vs. The Ultimate Warrior (C) (WWF Championship & Intercontinental Championship)
The wait was over, we finally got to the main event! These two big stars collided while the crowd was 100% divided as 50% chanted for Hogan and 50% chanted for Warrior. The match started with a long standoff, both guys face to face as they prepare to go at it. They began shoving each other then locked up only for to throw one another against the corners. They then began to lock up in the test of strengths in which they both got the best of one another! As the match goes on, Hogan had most of it under control and even had Warrior beat a couple of times with some simple Back Suplexes. Warrior would fight back but somehow gets overwhelmed by Hogan, causing him to lose his power throughout the match. At one point, Warrior finally starts to bulked up and regain his strength then goes after Hogan but then suddenly, the referee gets knocked down in the process. For a while nothing much goes on but then Warrior tries to pin Hogan, only for Hogan to kick out and hulk up as he was not gonna lose so abruptly. Hogan fought back and slammed Warrior, then goes for the Leg Drop but Warrior dodged it and hits the Ultimate Splash for the 3 count!! After a long hard fought match, The Ultimate Warrior successfully regained the Intercontinental Championship while capturing the WWF Championship!! Hogan was so distraught about losing this match, but still showed good sportsmanship by handing Warrior the WWF Championship himself and the two embraced in the middle of the ring. Hogan stepped away and allowed Warrior to have his moment in the ring in which he sure did as pyro goes off and Warrior celebrated with all of the fans in the Skydome to close out Wrestlemania VI in a very happy ending!
