Why Alexander Volkanovski Defeated Max Holloway

Picture
On Saturday night at UFC 251, we saw the rematch between Alexander Volkanovski and former champion, Max Holloway. This fight went to decision just like the first one did however many actually believed Holloway won this one. Yes, some people believed Holloway won the first fight but the people who thought he won the second fight are definitely more visible this time around so I’m here today to explain why I thought Alexander Volkanovski actually did beat Max Holloway as I when I watched it, I believed Volkanovski deserved the win.

Round 1 - Holloway’s Striking

The debut round began with Max Holloway walking towards Alexander Volkanovski, we see him avoid a few strikes from the champion. Volkanovski lands a leg kick but he tries to pressure him with punches yet Holloway is still the one with the pressure constantly. Holloway gets hit with a few legs kicks but every time he gets hit in the leg, Holloway throws one of his own and even hits the body. Holloway lands a nice uppercut but Volkanovski has a good bit of dominance during the latter portion of the round - around the 3 minute mark. Holloway lands a nice 1,2. Holloway’s boxing and kickboxing is what is winning him this round as he out lands Volkanovski. Holloway lands a head kick and Volkanovski drops down to one knee right towards the end of the round.

Round Winner: Max Holloway (10-9)

My Thoughts: Holloway begun great here, his strokes were working really well. The knockdown definitely helped him here as Volkanovski was doing great as well but even without that knockdown, I’d say Holloway would win this round anyway.
