What’s Next for Anthony Joshua?
A few nights ago in Madison Square Garden , we saw Anthony Joshua make his debut in America and it didn’t go as many expect, myself included. Don’t get me wrong, I knew Ruiz was being underestimated but I didn’t predict him winning but he shocked the world but stopping him in the seventh round. What’s interesting about this is Joshua didn’t seem himself, he looked chilled in his entrance but when introductions were being done, he started chewing his mouth guard. After the fight, he didn’t seem too bothered he lost, he even took pictures with fans so what happened? Nobody really knows which is extremely bizarre but what is next for former heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua?
Before we say what’s next, it feels like we need to say what’s led Joshua up to the future and that includes beating names such as; Dillian Whyte, Wladimir Klitschko, Carlos Takam, Alexander Povetkin, Joseph Parker, Charles Martin and even Breezeale. In my opinion, he’s got the greatest resume in present heavyweight boxing and I don’t think it’s even close. Joshua was set to clash with Jarrell Miller however the fight was called off due to Miller failing a handful of drug tests. Miller was quickly replaced by Andy Ruiz Jr who the majority of boxing fans overlooked and underestimated and then the fight came and we obviously know what happened.
So what is next for Joshua? I think it has to be a rematch - I can’t imagine Joshua fighting anybody else other than Ruiz and that fight just needs to happen. After this, he can fight the winner of Fury/Wilder but I think if Joshua does win then he needs to think about his fighting schedule as he’s fought twice in the last 15 months. If he does win, he need to make sure he fights more frequently and make sure that he doesn’t overlook his opponents.
