UFC 3 Review

Picture
On our twitter page (@ThingsCombat) we released a poll asking you what UFC PPV I should review next and the options were UFC 201, 139, 50 and the one which won: UFC 3. It makes sense too as recently we reviewed UFC 1 and most recently UFC 2 but after this PPV, I’m probably going for a more recent PPV like somewhere in the 100 region but back to UFC 3, let’s get going.

Royce Gracie Vs. Kimo Leopoldo (Quarter-Finals)

Leopoldo runs towards Gracie and Gracie clinches him and gets him right towards the cage - this is a fight. Leopoldo refuses to go down and rightly so - imagine being on the ground with a PRIME Royce Gracie, I’ve had better ideas. Gracie struggles to get Leopoldo down so he just keeps him against the cage and he finally gets him down but Leopoldo gets him in a rear naked but expert Gracie escapes danger. Leopoldo has made such a mess of Gracie’s jacket - I bet Gracie spent so much time ironing that. Gracie tries to go for a triangle hold but can’t really get it, Leopoldo is an awkward guy to fight. They get back up and Leopoldo holds onto Gracie’s back. He takes Gracie down and Gracie gets Leopoldo in an armbar and he taps out!

My Thoughts: Gracie wins again...not surprising. Unfortunately, he’s too fatigued and can’t compete tonight, I bet you he’s sad that he once again can’t beat everybody.

Harold Howard Vs. Roland Payne (Quarter-Finals)

Howard starts with a stiff punch, Payne goes for a takedown and now we are on the floor. This is crazy. Howard gets great punches and just knocks Payne right out cold!

My Thoughts: Howard seems like a dangerous guy, 1 punch is all it took.

Ken Shamrock Vs. Christophe Leninger (Quarter-Finals)

Shamrock makes his UFC return, this is his first UFC fight since UFC 1. Shamrock is a hard guy to beat but Leninger isn’t a walk through to the semi finals either. Should be interesting. Shamrock takes him down and starts wrestling with him. Leninger wraps his legs around Shamrock who is on top of him. Shamrock is that tough even his name sounds tough:Shamrock. Leninger keeps grabbing the neck and pulling it towards his face, trying to choke Shamrock out. Shamrock is so fast and he just keeps moving all over Leninger, from side to back to the other side, he is insanely quick. Scary quick. He tries to apply a rear naked choke but it’s a difficult position for Shamrock to do it. He gets in top mount now and starts clubbing away. A body shot from Shamrock is like getting hit with a, well, a rock. Shamrock’s had en ugh and says to himself “I’m off to the semi finals” and just elbows his way to the semis.

My Thoughts: Ken Shamrock is somebody to look out for, he’s in it to win it.

Keith Hackney Vs. Emmanuel Yarborough (Quarter-Finals)

I don’t like fat shaming but Emmanuel Yarborough is a big lad, he’s a sumo wrestler who weighs over 600 pounds. Keith Hackney is not even half his weight! This is crazy and definitely something you wouldn’t see nowadays. Hackney knocks Yarborough down with the first slap but Yarborough gets up and throws Hackney through the door! Hackney is doing a lot of leg kicks, trying to cut him down to size which is the smart thing to do. Hackney does so and finishes him with punches as the referee stops this.

My Thoughts: That’s a big win for Keith Hackney, he just beat a guy who’s 400 pounds heavier than him, technique beats power and it’s been proven.
Picture

Royce Gracie Can’t Compete Due To Fatigue

My Thoughts: Couldn’t someone just say that instead of making Gracie come out? The winner of Ken Shamrock verses Keith Hackneymwill fight Harold Howard.
Picture

Ken Shamrock Vs. Felix Mitchell (Semi-Finals)

Mitchell was the substitute for Keith Hackney who couldn’t be here due to injury so yeah. They wrestle straight away and Shamrock clearly has the advantage. Shamrock tries to choke out Mitchell but Mitchell puts up a fight. Shamrock has Mitchell against the cage and just kinda holds him there. Mitchell tries to take Shamrock down but Shamrock does not allow this. Instead, he outside trios Felix Mitchell and he applies a rear naked choke, and Felix Mitchell taps out.

My Thoughts: Ken Shamrock with a dominant win but it appears he’s injured himself which is sad as he was going to the finals. He’ll need a replacement. The finals will be between Shamrock’s replacement and Harold Howard who has now escaped fighting Royce Gracie AND Ken Shamrock - he’s a lucky man.
Picture

Harold Howard Vs. Steve Jennum (Finals)

This is Jennum’s first MMA fight. Howard status with a few punches and Jennum is desperate for a takedown. Howard gets a tight guillotine but Jennum somehow gets out of it. They get up and Jennum takes him back down. Jennum ground and pounds him and the towel is thrown in, Steve Jennum who has done NOTHING all night has won the whole tournament.

My Thoughts: I’m happy for Steve Jennum but he’s done absolutely nothing to get this win.

Overall Thoughts: I really enjoyed this PPV! This was a fantastic PPV.

Now let’s go onto our next segment for UFC PPV reviews and that is our leaderboard of my favourite PPV’s that we have reviewed on the website with number one being the best and number (whatever) being not the best.

UFC PPV Rankings

12: UFC 225
11: UFC 224
10: UFC 227
9: UFC 230
8: UFC 66
7: UFC 228
6: UFC 200
5: UFC 226
4: UFC 229
3: UFC 2
2: UFC 1
1: UFC 3

That’s right, UFC 3 is my favourite UFC PPV at the moment but remember, that’s only the PPV’s I’ve watched on the site and we’re going to do a load more. I don’t believe that UFC 3 will be my favourite PPV of all time and there’s something out there that can beat it, we just need to find it.
