UFC 239: What Happens Next
This past weekend was UFC 239 and it was a fantastic card. The fights lived up to the hype and we got our fair share of upsets throughout the card and I even regained my predictions championship.
Diego Sanchez
Diego Sanchez was on the first season “The Ultimate Fighter” and is now 37 years old and if I’m being truthfully honest, I don’t think he has much of a bright future in the UFC. If Sanchez does fight again then I think he should fight Carlos Condit. Condit is 35 so there isn’t too much of an age gap there and the fight would go either way.
Michael Chiesa
Ever since Michael Chiesa moved up to welterweight ,he is 2-0 however hasn’t fought any ranked opponent which means he should fight a ranked opponent and I don’t want to aim too high like the Lawler’s or the Thompson’s but somebody just outside the top 10 in Neil Magny. Chiesa/Magny would be a great fight and a great co main event to a fight night or even a main card PPV fight.
Luke Rockhold
I thought prior to UFC 239 that Luke Rockhold would have a good run at light heavyweight but obviously, him being knocked out isn’t the best start for the former middleweight champion. Personally, I think Rockhold would be better off retiring but if he wants to continue then I think he should fight Misha Cirkunov. The 32 year old could cause issues for Rockhold but the fight could go either way when all is said and done.
Jan Blachowicz
Jan Blachowicz crushed Rockhold’s debut at light heavyweight and deserves a bigger fight. I think he should fight Anthony Smith. Smith has just came off a big win over Alexander Gustafsson and I don’t think he should go against Santos as Santos just defeated him last year. Blachowicz and Smith is a great main event for a fight night and one I can see taking place before the year ends.
Ben Askren
This is an interesting one. Ben Askren just suffered his first defeat and all it took was 5 seconds. I think after Askren’s defeat, it’s perfect timing for Askren to go against Darren Till. This makes more sense now as it did before as both men are now coming off knockout defeats from Jorge Masvidal and these two can generate a lot of publicity as the two don’t like one another.
Jorge Masvidal
Jorge Masvidal has really turned his career around and while you can make a good argument that e deserve a title shot, I think he should fight the winner of Pettis/Diaz. This would be a fantastic fight as either man could give Masvidal a great fight and if Masvidal wins that then there’s no doubts that he should get a title shot.
Holly Holm
Holly Holm’s next fight really depends on if she decides to stay at bantamweight or women’s featherweight but I think she’ll stay at bantamweight. If she does then I think she should fight Cat Zingano, if she returns to bantamweight.
Amanda Nunes
I do believe Amanda Nunes will head back up to Featherweight and try and receive another new design and I think the logical opponent for her is the winner of Germaine De Randamie and Aspen Ladd and I really want to see Germaine Vs. Nunes as if Nunes wins that, she’s beat both Cyborg and Germaine.
Thiago Santos
Thiago Santos failed to capture the light heavyweight championship and therefore I think he should fight Dominick Reyes. Reyes is 11-0 and can cause Reyes issues however Santos has power and can knock Reyes out. This would be a great fight.
Jon Jones
Jon Jones has once again successfully defended his light heavyweight championship and wants to fight again in December which means he’ll do it all again in Vegas and I think he’s beaten his challenges and should head up to heavyweight and battle the winner of Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic. This would take place at the last PPV of the year and the buzz would be crazy! We’ve seen Jones defeat Cormier twice at light heavyweight but can he do it at heavyweight and become a double champion? But if Stipe wins, could Jones defeat Stipe? This would be brilliant.
