UFC 235 Predictions

Written By Josh (c), Cameron & Jack

When you think of stacked cards, your mind might instantly think of UFC 235 - mine certainly does and what’s not to like about the card? It has the debut of Ben Askren, two title fights, Cody Garbrandt’s first fight since failing to recapture the bantamweight title and even the prelims are fun with a fantastic match up between up and comer Zabit Magomedsharipov and the hardest hitting 145 pounder, Jeremy Stephens. Johnny Walker who is just a joy to watch will be fighting Misha Cirkunov. Did I even mention that Jon Jones is fighting?! On the same card as T-Woodley?! The card is as the kids would call “lit” and I personally can’t wait to watch it. There’s another fight on the card as Josh defends his All Things Combat MMA predictions championship against former champion Cameron and the return of Jack - brace yourselves, the future is now.

Jeremy Stephens Vs. Zabit Magomedsharipov (Featherweight)

Josh: For the first time ever, we will be predicting a fight on the prelims. I love Zabit Magomedsharipov and I don’t want that to be a secret, Magomedsharipov is the future of the featherweight division and trust me, I’d rather be on his side than against him. Jeremy Stephens is a criminally underrated fighter and I think he doesn’t get enough credit but as good as Stephens is, I have to say Zabit Magomedsharipov - I hope Stephen’s hamstrings will be intact.

Prediction: Zabit Magomedsharipov (Decision)

Cameron: I think Stephens will overpower zhabit in the stand up game and catch him when he least expects it.

Prediction: Jeremy Stephens (Round 2; TKO)

Jack: Despite Jeremy Stephens being the “hardest hitting” in the division I still believe the only thing Stephens will be hitting is the mat when he taps in the second round.

Prediction: Zabit Magomedsharipov (Round 2; Submission)

Cody Garbrandt Vs. Pedro Munhoz (Bantamweight)

Cameron: I would think that this would be an easy win for the former champ and I predict a second round knockout for CG.

Prediction: Cody Garbrandt (Round 2; TKO)

Jack: I think Cody will win this by a second round KO and attempt to get his career back on track after a major setback caused by the hands of TJ Dillashaw.

Prediction: Cody Garbrandt (Round 2; TKO)

Josh: This will be an excellent opening to the card - this is Garbrandt’s first fight since UFC 227 and I have high expectations for this fight. Munhoz is a good fighter, he just struggles to beat he big names but that’s nothing to be ashamed of in the bantamweight division. I’m going to go with a Garbrandt victory by knockout in the second round - maybe the first.

Prediction: Cody Garbrandt (Round 2; TKO)

Tecia Torres Vs. Weili Zhang (Women’s Strawweight)

Jack: I think Tecia Torres by decision, I don’t actually know any of these fighters so hopefully tonight I will be able to learn the strengths and capabilities of both fighters.

Prediction: Tecia Torres (Decision)

Josh: Tecia Torres’ last fight was against Joanna Jędrzjczyk in a losing effort. Welli Zhang isn’t that well known in the octagon but a win here tonight would do wonders for her career however I see Torres picking up a decision victory.

Prediction: Tecia Torres (Decision)

Cameron: Tecia Torres’s taekwondo and karate will be too much for welhzi: Torres decision for me.

Prediction: Tecia Torres (Decision)

Robbie Lawler Vs. Ben Askren (Welterweight)

Josh: Never in a million years, I thought we’d see the funky one enter the octagon but here we are and what a debut fight, huh? This is a brilliant clash of styles between a wrestler and a striker. Lawler isn’t an easy fight for anybody but I do think we will see Askren will a round 3 submission victory.

Prediction: Ben Askren (Round 3; Submission)

Cameron: I think Robbie will be able to stop funky boys takedown attempts and catch him early on in the fight.

Prediction: Robbie Lawler (Round 1; TKO)

Jack: I think Ben Askren will get a second round submission win against Lawler and this could potentially be one of Lawlers last fights in the UFC however I get a feeling I may get this horribly wrong and it could be a disastrous start for Askren.

Prediction: Ben Askren (Round 2; Submission)
Picture

Tyron Woodley (C) Vs. Kamaru Usman (UFC Welterweight Championship)

Cameron: Usman isn’t experienced enough to fight the champ I predict Tyron cracks him and finishes him on the ground via tko (punches)

Prediction: Tyron Woodley (Round 2; TKO)

Jack: I think Woodley will win this by decision but I still think it will be quite a dominant performance and definitely enough to retain the title.

Prediction: Tyron Woodley (Decision)

Josh: I’m going to keep this short: I think Woodley will win by knockout in either the second or third round.

Prediction: Tyron Woodley (Round 3; TKO)
Picture

Jon Jones (C) Vs. Anthony Smith (UFC Light Heavyweight Championship)

Jack: Personally, I think this will be the worst fight on the main card but Jones by submission in the second is the outcome I predict.

Prediction: Jon Jones (Round 2; Submission)

Josh: It wasn’t so long ago since Jon Jones was fighting so it’s good to have him back nice and early. Smith could cause issues for Jones and I see this fight being harder to win for Jones than the previous Gustafson fight and this will be a brawl but I think Jones will retain by decision.

Prediction: Jon Jones (Decision)

Cameron: I predict Jones will kick Anthony’s ass the whole fight but Anthony will burst out and ko Jon Jones.

Prediction: Anthony Smith (Round 4; TKO)
