UFC 200 Review

Picture
For some reason, I thought it would be a good idea to have a review of every UFC PPV on the website. We have already reviewed UFC 66 and 225 onwards but why not do weekly reviews of completely random PPV’s? For the debut of “UFC Sundays”, I’ve decided to review UFC 200. This card was stacked and it was in the summer of 2016. It featured a featherweight title clash on the second fight, the return of Brock Lesnar, a women’s main event and Cain Velasquez.

Cain Velasquez Vs. Travis Browne

Round 1: Browne goes for a right hand early on. Velasquez goes for multiple leg kicks, he’s like me playing UFC 3. Velasquez goes for a high kick but Browne avoids it. Velasquez gets him against the cage wall but Browne gets out. Velasquez hits him with big punches now. Velasquez knocks Browne down but it isn’t long until Browne manages to get up. Velasquez dominates him and finishes him on the ground with 3 seconds to spare in the round.

My Thoughts: This was a good fight! I really enjoyed this, it was an easy win for Velasquez.

Jose Aldo Vs. Frankie Edgar (UFC Interim Featherweight Championship)

Round 1: They try and scout each other for the opening minute. Edgar is the one moving towards Aldo and Aldo is moving back. This was Aldo’s first fight since McGregor’s 13 second knockout. Edgar takes Aldo to the ground but it only lasts less than a second as Aldo gets up immediately.

My Thoughts: This was an even round but of course I need to give somebody the round, this was really close though.

Round Winner: Jose Aldo (10-9)

Round 2: Edgar pushes Aldo more this round. Edgar is at a quick pace and is hitting hard. Aldo catches him with a left hand. He blocks a takedown from Edgar. Edgar goes for another takedown a little bit later but Aldo refuses to go down. This has been a good round for Frankie Edgar.

My Thoughts:This was a slow but an enjoyable second round.

Round Winner: Frankie Edgar (10-9)

Round 3: Edgar hits a leg kick early on. Edgar gets Aldo against the cage. Edgar goes for a low punch but Aldo knees him in the head. Edgar goes for a takedown but Aldo isn’t having any of it. I think Edgar won this round because Aldo barely did anything.

My Thoughts: This was a good round and like I said, I think Edgar won this round.

Round Winner: Frankie Edgar (10-9)

Round 4: Edgar rapidly punches Aldo to start the round. Edgar attempts a head kick but doesn’t connect with it. They start exchanging punches. Edgar is busted open bad. Aldo has been more aggressive this round and even thought Edgar has tried to match the intensity, he hasn’t quite done so. Aldo hits him with a left. And he falls down but immediately gets back up, he might’ve slipped.

My Thoughts: I enjoyed this round.

Round Winner: Jose Aldo (10-9)

Round 5: Edgar comes out swinging. Edgar is really busted open now. Aldo is chasing Edgar around now and throwing punches right towards Edgar. Aldo barely does anything in this round but neither does Edgar.

My Thoughts: This was a good fight, it was little bit slow in some parts but it was still a good fight.

Round Winner: Jose Aldo (10-9)

Score: Jose Aldo (48-47)

Daniel Cormier Vs. Anderson Silva

Round 1: Cormier goes for a big head kick but doesn’t quite get it. Cormier lands a takedown but Silva has him in a better position. It isn’t long until wrestler, Daniel Cormier gets him where he wants him. Cormier gets Silva in side control. He throws some elbows in a top mount position. Cormier throws some grounded body shots. Silva is holding onto Cormier but that doesn’t stop Cormier from throwing shots.

My Thoughts: This was a slow start to the fight but Cormier controlled the whole round so it’s hard to argue that it wasn’t his round.

Round Winner: Daniel Cormier (10-9)

Round 2: Cormier takes Silva down, less than a minute in. Cormier searches for the right position as Silva tries to avoid this from happening. Cormier goes for aggressive shots towards Silva. They get told to stand up. Silva lands a big knee but there’s not much he can do to win this round. Silva goes for a body kick. Cormier gets Silva against the cage, looking for a takedown but the round ends.

My Thoughts: This was another great round for Cormier, he’s doing great on the scorecards.

Round Winner: Daniel Cormier (10-9)

Round 3: Silva goes for a big kick in the early seconds of round 3. Cormier lands good strikes here. Cormier lands a nice takedown and we’re back on the ground. Cormier dominates the ground game but they get told to stand back up. Silva chases Cormier around the octagon. He’s looking for the knockout and they clinch against the cage to end the round.

My Thoughts: This was a good fight which I think it was obvious that Daniel Cormier won.

Round Winner: Daniel Cormier (10-9)

Score: Daniel Cormier (30-27)

Brock Lesnar Vs. Mark Hunt

Round 1: Lesnar does a few leg kicks early on. He chases Hunt around and takes him down. He holds Hunt against the octagon. He takes him down again. Lesnar throws some punches and elbows towards Hunt. Lesnar throws bug punches towards Hunt and Hunt gets up. Lesnar takes him back down though.

My Thoughts: Brock Lesnar really wants to show off his ground game.

Round Winner: Brock Lesnar (10-9)

Round 2: They start the round off slow. Lesnar goes for a takedown but Hunt moves out of the way. Lesnar has a messy takedown rather than a normal takedown. Hunt goes for a right hand but Lesnar avoids this and gets Hunt against the cage.

My Thoughts: This round felt slow but Lesnar won this round I think.

Round Winner: Brock Lesnar (10-9)

Round 3: Hunt starts this round off strong with some good punches. Lesnar goes for a takedown and lands it. Lesnar gets some good punches in the grounded position. Lesnar tries to get in a better position. Lesnar hits big right hands to the head of Mark Hunt. Brock Lesnar just bullies Hunt now and just punche his head in.

My Thoughts: I enjoyed this fight. Easy win for Lesnar.

Round Winner: Brock Lesnar (10-9)

Score- Brock Lesnar (30-27)

Meisha Tate (C) Vs. Amanda Nunes (UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship)

Round 1: Tate goes for a body kick but Nunes avoids danger. Tate goes for a takedown but Nunes avoids it and knees Tate in the head. Nunes outstrikes Meisha Tate and is showing off her boxing ability. Nunes tags Tate and just punishes her with punches. Nunes locks in a rear naked and Tate taps, Nunes is now the women’s bantamweight champion.
