UFC 1 Review
As we’re trying to get every UFC PPV watched and reviewed on the website, we need to watch EVERY single PPV. We’ve already reviewed UFC 66, 200,224, 225,226,227,228 and most recently, 229. Recently we ran a twitter poll asking you what PPV we should review next, the options were UFC 77, 217, 190 and the one which won; UFC 1. So last week we reviewed the most recent UFC PPV and now it’s time to review the first. Let’s get going.
Gerard Gordeau Vs. Teila Tuli (Quarter Finals)
It feels weird not to have rounds. Tuli (who bare in mind is 200lbs heavier than Gordeau) runs towards him and tries to take him down but misses and Gordeau soccer kick him in the mouth. The referee steps in and after a bit of waiting around, the fight is over. Gordeau has advanced to the semi finals.
Zane Frazier Vs. Kevin Rosier (Quarter Finals)
Now onto the second fight. Frazier backs off to begin with. Rosier lands bit shots and they end up on the ground. Frazier comes back and pins Rosier against the cage. Frazier hits a good uppercut. Frazier grabs Rosier’s face. Frazier does big damage to Rosier with a knee to the stomach. Frazier looks for a choke hold but Rosier escapes it. Rosier throws big punches to a grounded Frazier and just does one big kick to finish him off.
Royce Gracie Vs. Art Jimmerson (Quarter Finals)
Jimmerson starts moving towards Gracie. Gracie attempts a big front head kick - doesn’t connect though. Jimmerson for an unknown reason is fighting with one boxing glove - I’m not going to ask why. Gracie takes him down and is looking for a submission victory. Gracie mounts Jimmerson and Jimmerson taps out.
Ken Shamrock Vs. Pat Smith (Quarter Finals)
They clinch as soon as the fight starts and Shamrock tosses Smith down and smith tries to advance into a submission but Shamrock is having none of it and throws good punches. He leaves top mount and smoothly transitions into a leg lock, it takes a while but Smith eventually taps out.
Kevin Rosier Vs. Gerard Gordeau (Semi Finals)
Rosier starts moving towards Gordeau. Gordeau hits a nice leg kick and he catches Rosier with a right hand and Rosier goes down and Gordeau hits his signature move: soccer kick to face. Gordeau stomps on the chest of Rosier and it’s over. Gordeau is moving to the finals of the ultimate fighting challenge.
Royce Gracie Vs. Ken Shamrock (Semi Finals)
Gracie immediately goes for a takedown. They get back up and they get back down. Gracie has him where he wants him. Shamrock is trying to scramble out. Shamrock is going for the legs but Gracie is fine and makes Shamrock tap out. Gracie will fight Gordeau in the finals.
Royce Gracie Vs. Gerard Gordeau (Finals)
It’s time for the main event of UFC 1. Gracie shoots for that takedown. Gracie finally gets that takedown. Gracie locks in a rear naked choke and Gordeau has to tap out, he absolutely killed this tournament. Well done to Royce Gracie!
