WWF Summerslam 2001 Review
Hello I am Ben Mawson and welcome to my third summerslam review and this time it is summerslams 2001. This takes place right after the invasion PPV between the WWF and Alliance so all the matches are between both sides which should be interesting.
Lance Storm (C) Vs. Edge (WWF Intercontinental Championship)
As like many PPV's nowadays its starting with the Intercontinental championship match, during the match Christian runs down to the ring to spear Storm but misses and hits Edge but he kicks out of the pinfall just in time, the match ends in edge sealing the victory and giving WWF the first win of the night. (WWF-1,WCW/ECW-0)
Thoughts: At first I wasn't to bothered about this match but the more you watch the more you realise that this isn't that bad a match and actually is filled with interesting moves and close pinfall, a fine start to the show.
Between this and the next match there's a Jericho interview where he never gets old, it's just good old quality banter filled Jericho speech.

The Dudley Boyz & Test Vs. APA & Spike Dudley
Yet again another match I was not bothered about that turned out to be good, this had it all great fighting, close calls, spike going through a table and Shane McMahon hitting Bradshaw with a chair for the win. (WWF-1,WCW/ECW-1)
Thoughts: what can I say, other than it suprised me and go watch it yourself.

X-Pac Vs. Tajiri (WCW Cruiserweight & WWF Light Heavyweight Championship)
Both men are in the Alliance. This is another title match however it's for two titles the WCW Cruiserweight championship and the WWF Light Heavyweight championship. It's also one of the shorter matches on the card lasting only 7 minutes.
Thoughts: This was alright I guess, because the first two matches were so good this match is just bland and a bit boring to be brutally honest, X-Pac wins to become double champion.

Chris Jericho Vs. Rhyno
Before this match Y2J had never beaten Rhyno, and to make it even worse for him Stephanie would be at ring side to help Rhyno or as Y2J called them “GORE with the WHORE”. Midway through the match Jericho has a perfect 3 count but Stephanie gets on the apron and grabs the ref, so Jericho gets up pushes the ref out the way and when she goes to slap him he grabs her and kisses her and goes on with the match as if nothing had happened, meanwhile Stephanie is left pretending to almost be sick at ring side. After around 12 minutes of fighting Jericho hits out with the walls of Jericho as Stephanie throws a tantrum and JR screams "JERICHO! JERICHO! HAS DONE IT!" as the arena erupted with cheers. (WWF-2,WCW/ECW-1)
Thoughts: It was a pretty great match actually but what else would you expect from a wrestler like Chris Jericho, it has exciting spots and a good finish.

Jeff Hardy (C) Vs. Rob Van Dam (Ladder Match; WWF Hardcore Championship)
This is a hardcore championship title match but even better it's a ladder match too, now in my eyes that's hardcore. There is so many moments In this match that make it amazing like RVD putting Jeff in a face lock half way up a ladder. The match ends with Jeff hanging from the belt but falls and smashes his head against the mat that I read up on and is actually a botch. RVD then climbs to victory. (WWF-2,WCW/ECW
Thoughts: I had never seen this match before but I'm sure glad I've seen it now as it's such a good match with great spot after great spot that keeps you gripped all the way throughout and has to be classic in the wrestling industry.

The Brothers of Destruction (C) Vs. DDP & Chris Kanyon (C) (Steel Cage; WWF & WCW Tag Team Championships)
This all started with Diamond Dallas Page and his stalker storyline where he was obsessed with the Undertakers wife, it's also a title for title match as both sets of tag team championships, oh did I mention it's also a steel cage match. A good moment of commentary is when JR says "Page is a Pervert, he deserves to get the hell beaten out of HIM!". Just quality from JR really adds something else to the PPV. Taker does let Kanyon escape and focuses on beating up DDP with a metal chain as Kanyon flees to the back. (WWF-3,WCW/ECW-2)
Thoughts: any match that's got a cage or cell or anything is already better than most matches and this was is and ok match to say the most and to be honest there's not to much to say, take wins easily and that's that. The morale of the story is DDP gets smashed.

Stone Cold (C) Vs. Kurt Angle (WWF Championship)
This was right after stone cold betrayed the WWF at invasion and the emotions where high going in to this match and it shows creating a wrestling masterpiece the still holds up 18 years later, its fast, technical and pure class all at once. They fight everywhere the ring, ringside, crowd and even the ramp was Kurt's face covered in blood (WWF-4,WCW/ECW-2)
Thoughts: I don't want to spoil this match for people as it just that good so all am going to say is go watch it and come back, anyway Kurt Angle wins but it's because an ECW ref comes out after stone cold beats up two refs, but just as it looks like angle will be new champion the ref disqualifies stone cold meaning kurt won but Austin retains his belt. And in a fit of rage kurt puts the ECW ref in a angle lock.

Booker T (C) Vs. The Rock (WCW Championship)
The Rock (WWF) Vs Booker T (c - WCW championship) (with Shane McMahon) (Alliance)
Yet another great match, it's like they were trying to make it an amazing show, and yet another match that spills into the crowd and ringside and a brawl for the gods of wrestling to look down on and say DAMN!!! (WWF-5,WCW/ECW-2)
Thoughts: FINALLY THE ROCK HAS WON THE MATCH, becoming WCW champion along the way.
What a show, it in my books has to be one of the greatest summerslam of all time and also ends 5 wins for WWF and 2 for the WCW and ECW and is definitely one to watch and for that reason I'm giving it 10/10 for a rating.
Rating: 10/10
