It’s Summerslam 1995 and it’s going to be a crazy Wednesday Review. We’ve got so much to look forward to as Diesel defends his belt against King Mabel, Razor Ramon defends his title against Shawn Michaels in an iconic ladder match and Alundra Blayze defending her WWF Women’s title. Let’s start the show!

Jerry “The King” Lawler & Vince McMahon is on the commentary booth tonight. We see Dean Douglas educate the crowd and apparently he’ll be doing that throughout the show - oh boy, we’re off to a rocker.

123 Kid Vs. Hakushi

Hakushi has many tattoos over his body. The two have a good exchange with 123 Kid getting the better of Hakushi. This is a decent match, Hakushi used a more grounded technique try and keep 123 kid down which favours ho for a good while. Hakushi lands a great push up rope splash and even has a brilliant back body drop. He does a cartwheel before moon saulting to the outside. This was a great match which Hakushi ended up winning with a big slam.

Thoughts: This was a great opening match - I definitely thought by putting this match on first, it might lead into a good show.

Hunter Hearst Helmsley Vs. Bob Holly

Helmsley takes his time to begin with but Bob Holly quickly body slams him. Helmsley doesn’t want the action and cheap shots Holly when Holly isn’t looking. Helmsley goes after Holly in the corner but Holly turns the tables. HHH aggressively Irish-whips Holly right into the corner which sounded brutal. Helmsley nails Holly with a great suplex followed by a knee drop to the head of Holly which secures Helmsley a two count. Helmsley gets the win with a pedigree and extends his winning streak in WWF.

Thoughts: This was a short, decent match - I enjoyed this, it gave Helmsley the win and I don’t know what he did after this.

The Smoking Gunns Vs. Eli & Jacob Blu

The Blu brothers look too similar but the commentary team call him Jacob so we’ll also call him Jacob who takes out the smoking guns, Eli is now the legal man. Billy tags in Bart Gunn and while the referee has his back turned, Eli takes out Bart. Billy and Bart take out Eli, Jacob breaks up the pin. Billy Gunn takes them both out after a failed tag team move from the Blu’s. One of the Blu’s hit Billy with a big boot and that looked brutal. The Smoking Gunn’s won with a really good looking tag team move.

Thoughts: I thought this was a really solid match, I enjoyed it.

Skip Vs. Barry Horowitz

This march starts off really fast as Barry Horowitz is just all over Skip but Skip gets his own back. Horowitz puts up a challenge but Skip retaliates. Horowitz rolls up Skip for a two count. Horowitz suplexes Skip outside the ring. The referee gives Sunny in trouble for trying to stop the match by throwing in the towel - don’t know why she’s in the wrong. Skip does a let drop from the middle rope which looked effective. Skip bounces off the ropes and nails Horowitz with three consecutive leg drops but Horowitz kicks out. Skip lands a big splash from the top rope but it only gets a two count. Horowitz nails Skip with a picture-perfect drop kick. He attempts to go top rope but Sunny shakes the ropes which allows Skip to superplex Horowitz. Hakushi comes down - he’s really been hogging the attention this show. Hs comes down and takes off his headwear and gown and jumps on the apron. He springboards over Skip and rolls out of the ring which allows Horowitz to rolls Skip up for the win. Hakushi is just Mr. Summerslam.

Thoughts: It was a good match with a weird ending but it’s not really a bad thing at all. It was just kinda strange.

Alundra Blayze (C) Vs. Bertha Faye (WWF Women’s Championship)

Blayze gets some offence in, Faye stops it but Blayze gets more offence in. Faye gets hit by several body kicks in. Faye runs into Blayze which repeatedly knocks her down. Faye heads to the middle rope and misses a splash, Blayze uses it to her advantage as she sits on her shoulders and rolls her up but only gets a two count. Blayze gets a pin but Faye’s lover, Harvey Wippleman distracts the referee and Blayze chases him. She enters the ring and rolls up Faye for a two count. Faye gets hurricaranaed from Blayze and gets smacked by a missile drop kick followed by another one but Blayze misses the third. Bertha Faye wins with a power bomb and Harvey Wippleman goes crazy!

Thoughts: Huge upset! Hope she is still champion in my next review.

The Undertaker Vs. Kama (Casket Match)

Undertaker immediately unloads on Kama - I’m so glad he’s not fighting himself this year. Kama gets thrown on top of the casket and gets spooked and as he enters the ring, he walks into a big clothesline. Undertaker takes Kama down with the old school. Kama gets thrown in the casket, Kama gets up. Kama drives The Undertaker down with a clothesline from the top rope. Undertaker splashes Kama in the corner but Kama catches him and slams him down. Kama lands in the casket and The Undertaker tries to close the casket lid but Kama’s manager, Ted DiBiase stops him - DiBiase seriously has an issue with The Undertaker. Kama picks up the undertaker and runs into the steel post. The Undertaker clothesline’s Kama over the top rope and both men end up in the coffin. Kama crawls out and the kid almost shuts but The Undertaker drags him back in. The Undertaker slams Kama into the casket for the win.

Thoughts: It was an alright match which was totally fine.
Picture

Bret Hart Vs. Isaac Yankem

Yankem’s theme song is really annoying - it’s literally just a dental drill. This was a decent match, last year we saw witnessed Bret fight his younger brother Owen in a steel cage but this year he’s fighting Yankem. This match goes for a good while and Jerry Lawler is overly involved which whitely leads to a disqualification which gives Hart the win.

Thoughts: I wasn’t really a fan of this - I didn’t enjoy this.

Shawn Michaels (C) Vs. Razor Ramon (Ladder Match; WWF Intercontinental Championship)

Dok Hendrix is on the commentary to replace Jerry Lawler. This should be a great match. The match starts off with a fast pace and I’m a big fan of Shawn Michaels’ attire. Both men try and hit their finishes early but both men fail in that department. Ramon nails Michaels with a suplex to the outside and hat looked brutal, the mats on the outside is incredibly thin and that must’ve been brutal. The match continues to be great as both men get near to taking the title. At one point, Ramon takes Michaels down who’s climbing the ladder and Michaels looks like he damaged that knee. Ramon continues his brutal outrage on Michaels but Michaels has his own moments throughout this Ladder Match. This includes a back suplex from halfway up the ladder to Ramon. Both men are down but it’s the HBK who gets back to his feet first and fights off the bad guy. Michaels sets up the ladder but it’s no where near the belt! He instead moon saults onto Ramon followed by a barrage of punches which is the followed by a missed splash from the top of the ladder and the reason it was missed was Ramon rolled out the way. Both men gradually climb up the ladder and the two exchange shots at the top. Both men eventually topple over which no man getting a clear advantage. As Razor jumps on the apron, Michaels uses all his momentum from the ropes to knock Razor off the apron but he knows it was coming and sticks his leg out causing Michaels to fall out the ring. Razor nails a razor’s edge to Michaels as he attempts to climb the ladder to victory and both men are down. They get up and continue to fight. Michaels who has literally all the time in the world decides to jump for the belt instead of, I don’t know trying to unhook it? Michaels gets up again and reaches for the belt, he gets a grip but falls down and he attacks the failed ladder. He gets another ladder and wins the match. Afterwards, Razor Ramon snatched the belt off of Shawn and spins him around and he gives Shawn the belt back and they shake hands. There was zero reason for Ramon to grab the belt.

Thoughts: This was the best match on the card unless Diesel and King Mabel beats it and you know what? I somehow don’t see that happening. This was a fantastic ladder match and it really gave the card a mega boost.
Picture

Diesel (C) Vs. King Mabel (WWF Championship)

Mabel just keeps running Diesel down. The two go back and fourth, Diesel leaps into Mabel which was kinda cool. Mabel uses his size to his advantage which was kinda expected if I’m being brutally honest. Mabel runs Diesel into the exposed turnbuckle. Mabel runs into the ropes which knocks the referee out of the ring - what? Sir Mo gets in and they both go to work on big daddy cool. Lex Luger makes the save and chases off Sir Mo - very “cool”. Mabel does a belly to belly and the referee is back and as you can imagine does the slowest count possible. Mabel heads to the middle rope and misses a splash and believe me, I wish I could say I didn’t see that coming but I can’t. Diesel hits Mabel with a clothesline from the middle rope which gets Diesel the win - right then.

Thoughts: This main evented the card and it wasn’t impressive. This dragged the show down, it wasn’t entertaining whatsoever.

Overall thoughts: If it wasn’t for that amazing ladder match, this PPV wouldn’t have been remembered for anything at all, well maybe that disaster of a main event. It’s hard to give a rating as the opener was solid, it dipped in the middle, Ladder Match was great, main event wasn’t so I’ll give it a 5.5.

Rating: 5.5/10
