Hello, I’m Ben Mawson and welcome to my first summerslam review and it is Summerslam 1991! This was a solid show with a ending made in heaven as the wedding bells ring.

The British Bulldog, Ricky Steamboat & The Texas Tornado Vs. The Warload & Power & Glory

To be brutally honest, it’s Steamboat, Bulldog and Tornado just beating up the other team for most of the match with the odd moments of power & Glory and warlord getting some punches. But for the most part, it’s a one sided beat down.

Thoughts: It’s an okay match with some exciting moves sprinkled throughout it, but for the most part it’s mostly just another bland tag team match.

Mr. Perfect (C) Vs. Bret Hart (WWF Intercontinental Championship)

The commentary branded this as the best match of all time, I wouldn't quite call it legendary however it was a great match with a new champion being crowned as Mr Perfect tapped out to Bret Hart.

Thoughts: This was a very entertaining match as the fast paced action carries on throughout the full match and for me that make it one to watch if you haven't already. This was a big highlight for the show, in my opinion.

The Natural Disasters Vs. The Bushwhackers

What's really funny about this match is how the commentators describe the Natural Disasters with lines like "These two living hunks" and "They’re proof that Chernobyl happened". This really showed The Natural Disasters as big heavy guys. After the Natural Disasters won the match, they went to attack Andre the Giant who was managing The Bushwhackers but the Road Warriors came out to defend him.

Thoughts: It’s hard to describe this one as it wasn't terrible but it definitely wasn't great with a quick dominating win for Disasters. It. was okay, let’s leave it at that and move on.

Ted DiBiase (C) Vs. Virgil (WWF Million Dollar Championship)

This is one of the longer matches on the card and it was for the Million Dollar Championship, there is also a moment when DiBiase could have been disqualified for the Sensational Sherri’s actions but the referee sent her to the back and continues the match instead with virgil getting his revenge on DiBiase. Virgin won the match and became WWF Million Dollar Champion.

Thoughts: This was actually a good match between these men, Virgil starts with a strong performance and carring that all the way out and DiBiase selling the movies well and having short spells of dominance throughout, it had the tense moment in the middle part of the match where we didn’t know if the match was over or not but at the end it provides a really great feel good moment when virgil wins to become new champ.

The Big Boss Man Vs. The Mountie (Jailhouse Match)

This is a pretty boring match with Big Boss man being in charge of the match all the way through. He wins this match and yeah...

Thoughts: My thoughts on this match, well here it is, just use your time better and forget about this match. It was almost 10 minutes long and that was far too long for this match.
Picture

The Nasty Boys (C) Vs. Legion Of Doom (Street Fight; WWF Tag Team Championships)

This was a good match but to be honest, not much happened bar a few people being hit with a helmet. It was good to get the tag team titles on the card.

Thoughts: This was a match i could have lived without seeing, if that doesn't sum it up then i dont know what will. It didn’t live up to my expectations and it wasn’t up to much cop.

IRS Vs. Greg Valentine

I’ll be honest, this is another forgettable match with a good roll up to end it. It lasted roughly 6-7 minutes and it wasn’t necessary.

Thoughts: This is a disappointing match so not much to say about it so I won’t!

Hulk Hogan & The Ultimate Warrior Vs. Col. Mustafa, General Adnan & Sgt. Slaughter

The past two matches were a let down but this really restored it with a great performance from everyone. Everybody put in a good effort and I didn’t gave much expectations for this handicap match - Sid Justice was the special guest referee and I don’t really understand why but this was really fun!

Thoughts: As much as I have a deep hatred for hulk hogan and his stupid little yellow shorts (don’t ask, I’m just not a hogan fan) I have to give credit where it’s due, he performed brilliant in this match along with The Ultimate Warrior and Sid Justice doing a good job as referee. This was a great match o close the wrestling aspect of Summerslam.

Randy Savage & Miss Elizabeth’s Wedding

This was actually better than I thought with a really good promo package of all their highlights, dont get me wrong as they had been married for 5 years by that point and they would be divorced only a year later and went on to marry other people but hey its a wedding who cares?

Overall Thoughts: This was a good Summerslam which dipped at some points. It had its weak points, it had its strong points and it was a decent show all around.
