WWE Smackdown Live Review - July 16th 2019
It's now Smackdown's turn to begin their buildup to Summerslam! Now it's time that we hopefully see new challengers for the titles instead of the same ones from the past couple of months. With the biggest party of the summer approaching, I'm sure Smackdown has got some plans under their belt. Let's take a look at what went down!
Show opened with Shane McMahon presenting a new concept called a Smackdown Town Hall. The whole SD roster were on stage as they had the opportunity to address Shane on how they've been treated by him and the lack of opportunities they get. Most superstars spoke and almost all of them stated that Kevin Owens was right when he called out McMahon. Shane gets tired of hearing the "complaints" so he ends the meeting. As he continues to talk about himself, KO appears from behind and gives Shane the Stunner! KO was suppose to have the night off, so this was a surprise to most people. He exits through the crowd and fans were behind him along the way.

Aleister Black Vs. Cesaro
This wasn't as good as their match at Extreme Rules but it was still a fine match. Cesaro tried to keep Black down with rest holds but he wouldn't give up that easy. Aleister hits a knee strike to Cesaro's chest, knocking him down. He then raises Cesaro to a position where he knocked his mouthguard out of his mouth with the Black Mass for the win!
Charlotte Vs. Liv Morgan
This match wasn't bad honestly. For one, I was happy as hell to see Liv back on my television screen. She actually looked fine in the match, but of course she wasn't gonna be Charlotte even though that would've been cool to see. Charlotte hits a Powerbomb then applies the Figure 8 for the submission win! Hopefully we get to see Liv Morgan more prominently going forward.
Bayley & Ember Moon Vs. Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville
Quick match here as Bayley and Moon mostly dominated Rose and Deville even though they got a few offense in. Bayley hits Sonya with the Bayley to Belly Suplex, while Ember nails the Eclipse on Rose and picks up the win for her team! Afterwards, Bayley was asked about who should she want to face at Summerslam for her championship. She said she wants to face someone who's worthy and dedicated, then looks directly at Ember Moon. Ember becomes aroused and accepted Bayley's challenge! Looks like we're getting Bayley vs Ember Moon at Summer and you know what, that'll be a great match.
The New Day arrives next as they celebrate their 6th tag title win and the fact that each member carries championship gold around their wastes. They challenge Daniel Bryan and Rowan to come out to invoke their rematch clause and the two did show up, but neither of them said a word and walked off. Samoa Joe comes out and states that he has unfinished business with Kofi. Elias comes out next and states that he wants a shot at the WWE Championship. Randy Orton come out last and wants the title himself. Kofi challenges any of the 3 to step up right there, but Elias issues a 6 man tag match instead. Orton wanted nothing to do with that at first but New Day starts clowning him, causing him to turn around and walk to the ring as the tag match had became official.

Randy Orton, Elias & Samoa Joe Vs. The New Day
Both teams performed well and made this match enjoyable. The heels had the upper advantage but New Day fought them off, providing why they're tag champs. Joe and Elias took out Big E and Woods on the outside then as Elias comes back in the ring, Kofi nails him with the Trouble in Paradise. Immediately after that, Orton RKOs Kingston and picks up the win for his team!
The IIconics (C) Vs. The Kabuki Warriors (Women Tag Team Championships)
About damn time this match was taking place! Unfortunately, it didn't go long so we didn't get to see much. Asuka kicked Billie Kay in the head and she rolls outside of the ring then the referee starts counting. Peyton Royce checked on Billie as she was getting back into the ring. As the referee was close to a 10 count, Billie and Peyton looked at each other then Peyton pulls her off the apron and the referee completes the 10 count. Asuka and Sane won the match via count out but as expected the IIconics are still the tag champs. The two challengers did not like this at all so they beat down the champs afterwards. Disappointed.
Andrade Vs. Apollo Crews
Andrade attacks Crews before the match but Crews agreed to go on with the match anyway. The match itself was nothing special as Andrade continued to beat down Apollo. Andrade hits the Meteora in the corner then attempts to pin Apollo but he rolls up Andrade for the shock win.
Kevin Owens Vs. Dolph Ziggler
Fine main event here as these guys got to have an actual match instead of a quick one this time. Good back and forth action that also featured Ziggler hitting the Zig Zag on KO for a close near fall. During the match, Shane McMahon arrives with half of the SD roster as they surround the ring and KO wasn't pleased about this at all. Owens then hits the Stunner on Ziggler but Shane pulls KO out of the ring, only for him to receive the Stunner as well! Owens then runs to the back and the superstars around the ring chases him. Shane claims Owens is gonna pay real bad and vows to get revenge, closing out the show.
