ROH Best In The World 2018 Review (This Week In ROH)
Best In The World 2018 was last night and we’re going to review the show in the layout of an episode of “This Week In Ring Of Honor” and that includes the “Star Of The Show” segment but instead of a traditional 3 points for the star of the show it’s going to be 6! That’s right, it’s going to be double! All to play for, but let’s kick the show off with the run-down.
The Kingdom (c) Vs. Los Ingobernables De Japon (EVIL, Sanada & Bushi) (ROH 6 Man Tag Team Championships)
The match is really good with some really near falls throughout the enjoyable six Man Tag Team Match but as expected The Kingdom retained.
Winners: The Kingdom
Winners: The Kingdom
Flip Gordon Vs. Bully Ray
This match is very high paced with Gordon getting a lot of offence in with dives and that but Ray gets the upper hand after a brutal clothesline. Ray misses a Vader Bomb which is a nice tribute and receives “Vader” chants. Ray kicks Gordon in the groin for the disqualification. After the match, Bully Ray attacks Flip Gordon but Eli Isom makes the save. Oh wait, he gets battered as well. Cheeseburger makes the save. Oh wait, he gets battered too. Then when Ray is going to powerbomb Gordon through the table, Colt Cabana threatens Ray.
Winner: Flip Gordon (DQ)

Sumie Sakai, Tenille Dashwood, Mayu Iwatani & Jenny Rose Vs. Kelly Klein & Odeo Tai
Out of all the matches, I was least excited for this one. Don’t get me wrong, the match was quite good but it had no built, it was just flung together. It was a good match though so nothing wrong with that.
Winners: Sakai, Dashwood, Iwatani & Rose
Winners: Sakai, Dashwood, Iwatani & Rose
Kenny King Vs. Austin Aries
The match passed my expectations and believe me, those expectations were quite high so I’m glad it did. These two have great chemistry and the match had good high flying offence. Austin Aries won with the brain buster in a fantastic match!
Winner: Austin Aries
Winner: Austin Aries
Jay Lethal Vs. KUSHIDA
Talking about living up to expectations, this match actually surpassed mine! This was great, at one point of the match KUSHIDA even went for the lethal injection but didn’t get it; Lethal won with it though.
Winner: Jay Lethal
Winner: Jay Lethal
Punishment Martinez (c) Vs. Adam Page (Street Fight; ROH TV Championship)
This match was a street fight which was a nice change. One of these wrestlers had to wear jeans because you know, it’s a street fight. Martinez wore the denim, I predicted Page would but that’s not effecting my predictions which by the way, is 5 out of 5 so far. The match was just as brutal as I thought it was going to be and thumbtacks were even involved. Martinez won with a south to heaven chokeslam through a table.
Winner: Punishment Martinez
Winner: Punishment Martinez
The Briscoes (c) Vs. The Young Bucks (ROH Tag Team Championships)
This match has definitely been my favourite so far, these two teams have amazing chemistry and they tore the house down here. The Young Bucks came so close to winning and I bought into them winning but the Briscoes ended up retaining. After the match, SOCAL Uncensored come out with a chair but they turn face and attack the Briscoes. What happens from here?
Winners: The Briscoes
Winners: The Briscoes
Dalton Castle (c) Vs. Cody Vs. Marty Scurll (ROH Championship)
The main event was solid and obviously I predicted Scurll to win, that was my heart rather than my head because if I went with my head I’d have 8 predictions correct out of eight but I only have 7. Anyway, this match was really good and Scurll came SO close to winning but Castle won and I don’t know where these men go from here.
Winner: Dalton Castle

Now for the first time ever it’s time for the 6 point star of the show but first let’s look at last week’s leaderboard:
5th: Sumie Sakai, Chuckie T & Will Ferrera – 1
4th: The Young Bucks, The Briscoes, Christopher Daniels & Silas Young – 2
3rd: Marty Scurll, Cody, Jonathon Gresham, Jay Lethal & Matt Taven -3
2nd: Frankie Kazarian -4
1st: Flip Gordon - 6
4th: The Young Bucks, The Briscoes, Christopher Daniels & Silas Young – 2
3rd: Marty Scurll, Cody, Jonathon Gresham, Jay Lethal & Matt Taven -3
2nd: Frankie Kazarian -4
1st: Flip Gordon - 6
In sixth place and receiving one point is: Punishment Martinez. I’ve wanted Martinez to join the table for a good while now and I’m glad he is because he is a great wrestler who really deserves the TV title and I’m sure he’ll go great things in ROH for years to come. Welcome to the leaderboard, spooky Martin.
And in 5th place and gets two points is Austin Aries who is another debuting wrestler onto the leaderboard and we’ll most likely see him again on this list. It’s unknown what place on the list he is because we haven’t seen the updated table but I know he won’t be last place. Welcome to the leaderboard, A double.
Entering fourth place and eats up three points (which would be the maximum on a standard episode) is the ROH champion, Dalton Castle. Surprisingly, the champion has never been on the leaderboard but now he is and isn’t just here with 1 point or two points but 3! He is quite high up on the list for a new wrestler to enter the list but I’m sure he’ll only get higher.
Now onto third place and receiving 3 points is the villain, Marty Scurll. Scurll isn’t new to the list unlike others and has already had 3 points on the list so now this brings him up to six points so that’s good for him isn’t it? He’s really successful on this ranking system and he’ll only get more successful as weeks proceed.
In second place and having a handful of points is The Briscoes. Reach for the sky boys. The Briscoes have already had 2 points so now this takes them up to seven which is the new second place in the leaderboard. They had a great match on the PPV and they really impressed me.
In first place and taking six points is The Young Bucks. They also had 2 points so this gives them the total of 8 points so they’ll only get more. Their match was really fast-paced and I really enjoyed the tag team match. I think this takes them into first place so let’s see the UPDATED leaderboard:
7th: Punishment Martinez, Sumie Sakai, Chuckie T & Will Ferrera – 1
6th: Austin Aries, Christopher Daniels & Silas Young – 2
5th:Dalton Castle, Cody, Jonathon Gresham, Jay Lethal & Matt Taven -3
4th: Frankie Kazarian -4
3rd: Marty Scurll & Flip Gordon - 6
2nd: The Briscoes - 7
1st: The Young Bucks - 8
The leaderboard has really been shaken up, The Young Bucks now enter first place knocking Flip Gordon (who just last week was in first place) down to third but he’s not alone now as Marty Scurll accompanies him. The Briscoes are now in second. Austin Aries skips last place but he’ll get higher. It’s weird that Kazarian is the only one with 4 points, you’d expect more people to join him. Poor guy,

This week’s considerable is: The ROH Championship.
Where does Castle go next? Adam Page? Jay Lethal? Austin Aries? One of the Briscoes? Where does Scurll and Cody go next? I don’t see where any of these guys go. Crazy stuff.
