Muhammad Ali: The Boxing Record
Welcome to the second day of Ali week and now it’s time for the boxing record - the series where we go through some of a boxer’s most notable fights. Muhammad Ali has had 61 fights in total with 55 of them being victories. Let’s get started, shall we?
Muhammad Ali didn’t start his career as Muhammad Ali but instead by his birth name, “Cassius Clay”. His first fight was against Tunney Hunsaker in 1960 where Clay was only 18 years old. He won via unanimous decision.
In Ali’s 25th fight, he fought Brian London which Ali won in the third round. This marked Ali’s third fight in England. This also took Ali up to an impressive 25-0.
In 1971, Muhammad Ali faced his toughest challenge yet and that would be Joe Frazier. Ali would suffer his first loss by going the whole 15 rounds and lost by unanimous decision.
Muhammad Ali’s 50th fight was Joe Bunger and this was their second encounter. In their first fight, Ali won by decision and that was the same result in the rematch. This was a good rematch and it prove that Ali was a better heavyweight boxer than Bunger.
Ali’s last fight was against Trevor Berbick and was 39 years old. Muhammad Ali lost this fight concluding his career at 56 wins and 5 losses. What a record, what a man.
