Luke Rockhold: A Fresh Start
Luke Rockhold possibly one of the biggest household names in the UFC’s middleweight division has moved up to the light heavyweight division and will face Jan Blachowichz tonight at UFC 239. This move to the division has been a long time coming as Luke Rockhold isn’t exactly the same size as most middleweights but as we seen from his change to light heavyweight he looks like he really belongs there he is the same height as his next opponent and still looks twice as big as Blachowichz. I feel like Rockhold will do very well in this division and after he runs through Jan like a train there are a lot of other fights I think the fans would want to see: Anthony Smith, Thiago Santos, Alexander Gustaffson if he isn’t retired and of course the current champ, Jon Jones.
Anthony Smith
The Anthony Smith fight would be a fantastic fight for Luke Rockhold as this would put him closer to a title shot since he has beaten one of the best in the division. This would be a top class fight as both are great with kicks and both are very good on the ground Anthony Smith is a black belt BJJ artist but as Luke likes to say “you know what I do to black belts” referring back to a previous fight with Chris Weidman where he finished Weidman on the ground in the 4th. This fight would also be a personal fight as the two have made their opinion on each other very clear.
Thiago Santos
Thiago Santos would be another great match up for Rockhold, this fight would put Luke through his paces in the division as Thiago Santos is a non-stop pressure fighter with tremendous power in both his hands and his feet.
Ultimately we need to see this Saturday if Luke gets past his opponent which we all hope he does to give him a kick start on his way to fight for the title which I’m sure he will either later on this year or early next year against whomever the next champ will be either Jon Jones or Thiago Santos, but we never know, by the new year we could be crowning our new light heavyweight champion, Luke Rockhold.
