Josh Taylor Vs. Ryan Martin (The Boxing Analysis)

Picture
It’s been a while since we’ve done a boxing analysis but don’t worry, we’ve got a couple coming very soon but this seems like a great time to do an analysis of this fight as it was only last night and I was there live! The atmosphere was crazy as it was last time but this time it was a lot louder. I don’t know if it’s because I’m from Scotland but I think Taylor could become a world champion, he’d have a solid time against Lomachenko but then again, so would everybody as he’s one of, if not the best boxer in the world. If he was to fight Lomachenko, I really wouldn’t doubt Josh Taylor. Anyway, Josh Taylor fought Ryan Martin in a fight which was the quarter finals of the world boxing super series - let’s get going.

Round 1

This is a battle between southpaw verses orthodox. Josh Taylor utilising those body shots - trying to tire Martin out. Martin isn’t an easy threat though, he’s really good. This is Martin’s first fight outside of America so he needs to adapt to being away. Taylor is in his home country so he’s getting the advantage. Taylor is working away, with really fast punches. Martin is eating these punches but he’s still keeping his guard up.

My Thoughts: Great first round from Taylor, he’s doing exactly what he needs to do.

Round Winner: Josh Taylor (10-9)

Round 2

Taylor doing these 1,2 punches. He hits a quick body combination and how many of these body shots can Ryan Martin take? Martin is keeping his composure but yet again Taylor keeps hitting these straight body shots. Josh Taylor hits a good uppercut but he’s dominated this round.

My Thoughts: That was another round for Josh Taylor.

Round Winner: Josh Taylor (10-9)

Round 3

The thing about Ryan Martin is he’s not unfamiliar with late finishes and that’s one of the reasons why Josh Taylor is doing these body shots, to slow him down so he doesn’t get a late finish. Taylor is a smart fighter and Martin is using that jab now. Taylor is softening Martin’s chest and head. Taylor hits a good right body shot. Martin is slowing down.

My Thoughts: Josh Taylor is really abusing that body of Ryan Martin, he’s making this look easy somehow.

Round Winner: Josh Taylor (10-9)

Score: Josh Taylor (30-27)

Round 4

Josh Taylor hits a really fast 5 punch combo, how is he so fast? Taylor hits a good right hook. Josh Taylor has punched Martin that hard, his eye has swollen up. Taylor hits a right body hook and ducks Martin’s left hook - he’s impressive. Martin is trying to close Taylor against the ropes but Taylor is picking him apart.

My Thoughts: This was yet another enjoyable round.

Round Winner: Josh Taylor (10-9)

Round 5

Taylor & Martin clinch. Martin is starting to throw more but Taylor shuts him down by a big body combination. Josh Taylor hits a good body uppercut and he’s starting to go work now. Taylor has hit good body shots and now Martin is starting to drop his guard down to his body.

My Thoughts: Another round in the book for Taylor.

Round Winner: Josh Taylor (10-9)

Round 6

Taylor is hitting body shots this round. Josh Taylor hits a great looking uppercut. Martin is getting more confident with his punches but Taylor is still outboxing him. Taylor’s using that left hook more and more.

My Thoughts: Good round for both men here.

Round Winner: Josh Taylor (60-54)

Round 7

Taylor’s hitting great punches now - Martin’s starting to come towards Taylor. Taylor hits him with a great left hand and Martin hits the canvas! The Tartan Tornado is heading to the semi finals.

My Thoughts: This was a great win for Taylor, he’s going to go far.
