IMPACT Slammiversary 2018 Review

Written By David Ayres
Picture
So Slammiversary happened and I'm here to make sure you all know what happened. Have you watched it? No? Well you should have as it was a fantastic pay per view so let's start the show.

Picture

Johnny Impact Vs. Petey Williams Vs. “Bone-soldier” Ishimori Vs. Fenix

So this match was supposed to have Rich Swann but unfortunately he had to pull out due to a concussion. This was a brilliant choice to have this match open Slammiversary. This match had fantastic action to open a show from flips to springboard to a brilliant end with Johnny Impact returning to the ring and winning by hitting the starship pain onto Fenix, zero complaints here.

Backstage with the OGz preparing for the match against LAX saying they are going to make LAX cry tears of blood (wonderful image)
Picture

Allie Vs. Tessa Blanchard

This match had some of the most aggressive forearms I've seen in wrestling. Allie hit the code breaker but tessa falls to the outside then the best super kick ever. Blanchard kicks out then she reverses a move in to the DDT and after a 3 count, Tessa Blanchard is your winner. Another strong match, this is going well.

Moose interviewed backstage. He said that 2018 is the year that moose becomes world champion.
Picture

Eddie Edwards Vs. Tommy Dreamer

Dreamer staples Eddie's head with a stable gun. A fan in the crowd gives Tommy Dreamer an ECW belt and smacks Edwards with it. Dreamer hits the Dreamer Driver from the top rope onto 2 chairs. Dreamer goes to set a table on fire but Edwards low blows and hits Boston knee party with Dreamer’s head on a chair and he wins. After the match, Eddie regrets everything he's done sobbing in the corner, Tommy offers his hand. Alisha Edwards comes down says shake his hand and Dreamer passes the kendo stick to Eddie (the passing of the torch)

Picture

Matt Sydal (C) Vs. Brian Cage (X-Division Championship)

This was my least anticipated match but what a match it was. It looked at times that Cage was going to lose from some clever reversals but the power was too much for Sydal. It annoyed me that they got me a few times. Cage won with the drill claw. Who will beat him?

Aries is backstage and gets off the phone, almost as if he has something planned and cuts a terrific promo about why he's going to win.

Picture

Su Yung (C) Vs. Madison Rayne (Knockouts Championship)

Su Yung emerges from a coffin in a great looking entrance. This match was Madison trying to stay one step ahead by taking out the undead bridesmaids but Su Yung’s previous actions has won her the title and it has kept her the title as she does the mandible claw when Madison went for the finisher. Su Yung retains the Knockouts title.

Backstage with LAX and they are tired of kings talking. LAX are not done and they remind us that they can stop a revolution but they can't stop a revolutionary.
Picture

LAX (C) Vs. The OGZ (5150 Street Fight; IMPACT Tag Team Championships)

I was all prepared to say that this was going to be the best match on the night and it was up until another match that it was but we'll get there soon. Honestly what a match this was, this had quick action and was a tough war that ended with a nasty thumbtack spot. LAX - so if you haven't seen any LAX match before do yourself a favor and watch this match or barbed wire masacare. Just some brilliant things in here tables laders and chairs. LAX won after putting Homicide through thumbtacks (what a difficult word to spell). After the match, LAX are attacked by the OGz and Konan is taken down as well. The OGz not only take the tag titles with them but they spray paint them as well.

Sami Callahan backstage and he's not happy that the people who voted on the IMPACT wrestling Twitter poll who said Sami will lose ( sorry about that sami I voted for pentagon as well).
Picture

Pentagon Jr. Vs. Sami Callihan (Mask Vs. Hair)

This was match of the night and was just exceptional. It had violence, blood,
and story telling at its best. If there's only one match to see from Slammiversary,it was this one and funnily enough the draw was in it.
This match had spikes being driven in to people's heads, piledrivers through chairs and a very different end to the match. Pentagon won but before he did Sami Callahan gave pentagon the middle finger almost as if he knew he was goosed. Pentagon hits the package pile driver and Sami must get his head shaved. Exceptional from both men.

Just before the main event we see a video package showing that bound for glory will be in New York.
Picture

Austin Aries (C) Vs. Moose (IMPACT Heavyweight Championship)

So this match was great a solid main event match but its almost a shame it went on after Mask vs Hair. Austin Aries being the heel champion that he is kept trying to win quickly and cheaply by count out. Once he hit a brain buster to the floor and Moose being the defiant challenger that he is just got in before the count. I was really behind Moose at this point wanting him to win. The ref got distracted asAries low blows Moose but he kicks out again but one more move and it's over as Austin Aries hits the brain buster on Moose and Aries is still your Impact World Champion.

Honestly what a pay per view this was the best Slammiversary in years probably the best since I started watching. Every match had a place they were all paced really well my biggest complaint was that there was no Chris Jericho he was mentioned during the Callahan match he tweeted something about the cruise.
And the other complaint was that I got two predictions wrong aries and lax winning I was very confident about getting a full house. But it wasn't to be honestly really looking forward to seeing Impact next week it wouldn't surprise me of the bound for glory main event was Aries vs Moose again.

Thank you for reading my recap on Slammiversary I've been David from all things combat and you have been wonderful.
