WWE Hell In a Cell 2019 Review

A PPV with that came with very little hype and a very little match card, it's Hell in a Cell 2019! Going into this event, there were only 3 matches announced for the show. A 4th one was added Saturday then Sunday morning was when more matches were added. Talk about randomness and lack of thought. This PPV featured two big HIAC matches that could potentially steal the show so without further ado, let's recap the show!

Pre-Show: Natalya Vs. Lacey Evans

Match was pretty basic, nothing important worth noting here. Lacey attempted to hit the Middle Rope Moonsault but Natayla dodged it then took the opportunity to lock in the Sharpshooter for the submission win. Afterwards, Natayla got the upper hand over Lacey as she strikes her again, leaving her laying on the ring.

Becky Lynch (C) Vs. Sasha Banks (RAW Women’s Championship)

Good opening match here as these women beat the crap out of each other. Sasha immediately ambushes Becky before the Cell landed on the ground and she evens beats her on the entrance ramp. They finally step inside the Cell as Sasha still has the advantage and she takes this opportunity to introduce us to some weapons. Weapons including a ladder, table, chairs, and kendo sticks were involved throughout the match and both women definitely used them to their advantage. Sasha at one point sets Becky up by the ladder and hits her with the Meteora onto it! Becky fights back then later on in the match she sets up a unique spot of her own. Sasha sets up two kendo sticks in a corner then gets taken out by Becky. Becky takes this time to set up a chair on top of the displayed kendo sticks then places Sasha onto them. She then delivers a Running Dropkick onto Sasha from the apron and that was cool to see I must say! Match continues then a table comes into play and Sasha attempts to Suplex Becky through it but she countered it then tries to Powerbomb Sasha through the table. Sasha gets out of that then leaps onto Becky with the Meteora through the table for a near fall! Sasha then grabs more chairs from under the ring and now the ring is basically flooded in chairs. Fast forward a bit and Becky has Sasha on the top rope then she delivers the Becky Plex onto the flooded chairs! Becky then finally applies the Dis-Arm-Her as Sasha attempts to grab a chair, but the pain was overbearing and she finally taps out! Becky Lynch retained the RAW Women's Championship in what was a good opener!

Roman Reigns & Daniel Bryan Vs. Erick Rowan & Luke Harper

At first, I could care less about this match then it got better over time. Harper and Rowan continued to look like monsters as they tossed Bryan around and even dominated Roman for a bit. Bryan and Roman weren't going down without a fight and they gave it to their opponents, especially Bryan as he brought the fight to Harper in particular. Everyone was outside of the ring at one point when Harper and Rowan decided to strip each of the announce tables one by one. They take out Roman then try to take out Bryan but Bryan counters their attempt with a Hurricanrana to Harper off one of the tables then Roman comes back and Spears Rowan off one table through another table! Rowan was out of the picture and now Harper continued to battle Bryan. Roman comes back in and gives Harper the Superman Punch then Bryan follows up with the Running Knee then Roman finishes him off with the Spear for the win! Afterwards, Roman and Bryan stare each other down then teases a handshake but Bryan refused. Bryan instead wanted a hug and surprisingly Roman went through with it, so the two men hugged and happy ever after. I gotta say I was surprised Bryan didn't turn on Roman, but I do believe we'll see a one on one match between these guys sooner or later.

Randy Orton Vs. Ali

Boring match but did have a cool finish. Throughout the match, Orton used some dirty tactics to keep Ali down. Ali fought back and at one point even leaped over the announce table to go crazy on Orton with some blows. Orton yet again has Ali down and teases for the RKO then as he delivers it, Ali countered it with a handstand which was pretty cool to see! Ali then tries to go for the Springboard X-Factor but Orton countered it into the RKO for the win!

Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross (C) Vs. The Kabuki Warriors (WWE Women Tag Team Championships)

The match was fine but sure as hell got interesting at the end. Both teams were competitive and the champs in particular looked good as they fought hard to keep their titles. Nikki and Asuka battled for a bit as Alexa takes out Kairi Sane at ringside with a Rolling Senton. As the referee's distracted by this, Nikki turns around and gets sprayed in the face with GREEN MIST by Asuka then she Roundhouse Kicks her in the head for the win! The Kabuki Warriors are FINALLY the Women's Tag Team Champions and I'm all for it. A long time coming for sure!

The OC Vs. Braun Strowman & The Viking Raiders

Fine tag match as the big guys took it to the limit against The O.C. Braun had the most momentum as he went to town on the opponents, especially nailing them with his vintage Shoulder Tackle Sprint around the ring. Strowman had AJ on his shoulders as he teases the Running Powerbomb, but Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson comes to the rescue and beats down Strowman enough for the match to end in a DQ. Ivar takes out everyone at ringside with a Splash off the top rope, leaving AJ and Braun to continue battling in the ring. AJ attempts to hit the Phenomenal Forearm but Braun catches him with a stiff punch to the face! Braun stood tall over AJ and clearly this was done to make Strowman look strong as Tyson Fury will make an appearance on RAW. Strowman and Fury will come face to face for sure on the show tonight.

King Corbin Vs. Chad Gable

Their previous matches were great, this one I wasn't much a fan of. It was a competitive match for sure but didn't have the same intensity as their other bouts. Gable hits his perfect Moonsault on Corbin for a near fall and even hits a good looking German Suplex for a near fall as well. Corbin became frustrated so he grabbed his syptor but the referee took it away from him. This causes Gable to roll up Corbin for the win!

Bayley (C) Vs. Charlotte Flair (Smackdown Women’s Championship)

Good match but not much else to it honestly. Bayley was heeling it up a little bit throughout the match with eye pokes and dirty ways to try to win the match. Charlotte of course fought back and even had the crowd by her side whenever she would come close to picking up the victories. Bayley clearly looked frustrated whenever she couldn't put Charlotte away and this got in her head too much as Charlotte locked Bayley in the Figure 8 and Bayley tapped! Charlotte is now a 10 time Women's champion! Afterwards, Bayley was very distraught from her loss and by the sound of it, fans weren't giving her any sympathy whatsoever.

Seth Rollins (C) Vs. The Fiend (WWE Universal Championship)

This match was a spectacle, and that's all it was. The match itself I thought was simply good. The Fiend looked good, hell he looked like a monster. For starters, the entire match was done in red lightning. Now the story of the match was that Rollins could not keep Wyatt down. No matter how many Curb Stomps he has hit him with, Wyatt wouldn't stay down. No matter how many weapons Rollins used on him, Wyatt wouldn't stay down. Rollins started to get more worried as he had absolutely no clue what to do in order to keep Wyatt down. Rollins goes under the ring and grabs a ladder and a chair then stacks them both on Wyatt's head. He then grabs a toolbox and starts hitting Wyatt on the head, while the ladder and chair were still on top of him. Wyatt was finally down at this point but Rollins didn't want to pin him just yet. He goes back under the ring and finds a sledgehammer, looking to finally put Wyatt away. Before doing so, the referee actually steps up to Rollins and stops him from hitting Bray. He tries to convince Seth not to go through with the hammer attack and Rollins calmed down at first, but then he said screw it and hits Bray in the head with the sledgehammer! This was where things go downhill very fast. As soon as Seth does that, the referee actually CALLS FOR THE BELL! The referee STOPS the HELL IN A CELL MATCH, ending this match in a no f***ing contest! Fans immediately lost their minds and rightfully so I must say because this is the second year in a row that a HELL IN A CELL MATCH ended in a no contest. EMTs arrive as they try to stretcher Wyatt out of the ring but he comes back alive and applies the Mandible Claw onto Rollins. He then proceeds to beat him down at ringside and as this was going on, the fans very loudly chanted "Restart the match!!" Of course that wasn't the case and after the beatdown, The Fiend vanishes. The absolute WORST ending to a PPV in a while. Disgusting.

Besides the first two matches, this show just wasn't well executed. The ending really ruined it for me and tons of other fans because for a Hell in a Cell Match to end in a no contest, especially for a SECOND YEAR in a row, just kills the credibility of the match overall. Not much more I can say but, man this left a lot of bad taste in people's mouths.
