Carl Frampton Vs. Scott Quigg (The Boxing Analysis)

Picture
This Saturday night, Carl Frampton will battle it out with Josh Warrington for Warrington’s IBF featherweight championship in Manchester, England. The fight has a lot of hype for two reasons; the fight itself and the second reason being the stacked undercard. Previously on AllThingsCombat we’ve did a Boxing Analysis on Carl Frampton’s fight with Luke Jackson and Josh Warrington’s fight with Lee Selby. Today we’re doing a Boxing Analysis on Another Carl Frampton fight and it’s when he fought Scott Quigg, let’s analyse the fight.

Round 1

Frampton starts with a few jabs, nothing new here from the orthodox boxer. Quigg throw a left - course he’s also an orthodox boxer. Frampton hits a body shot. Frampton hits a combination but nothing crazy.

My Thoughts: A good opening round for Frampton.

Round Winner: Carl Frampton (10-9)

Round 2

Frampton is quickly jabbing Quigg or should I say Frampton is quiggly jabbing? My god, that was something. Quigg is going for a body snot but misses and Frampton follows that up with a nice jab. The thing about Frampton, he is strictly a boxer and doesn’t care about knockouts, if he can get one, he’ll take it but he doesn’t box dangerously. Frampton hits a speedy combination.

My Thoughts: Scott Quigg needs to outpace Frampton, that’s how you’re going to beat him. Frampton is a fast guy so if you slow him down and outpace his boxing ability then Quigg can apply the pressure from the get-go.

Round Winner: Carl Frampton (10-9)

Round 3

Frampton continues to use that jab. Quigg goes in for a combo but doesn’t effect the Jackal. Frampton is using a double jab, right cross which is smart this early in the fight. Frampton goes for a right hook. This has been his best round so far.

My Thoughts: Frampton is doing more than just jabbing now, dangerous wagers for Quigg.

Round Winner: Carl Frampton (10-9)

Score: Carl Frampton (30-27)

Round 4

Frampton hits him with a right then a left, he’s switching up his style but give it a few rounds and he’ll return to his original format. Frampton is like that, he’ll stick to what he’s doing and when you get a hang of that, he switches it up. Quigg hits a body combination. The Jackal starts to hit body hooks. Quigg gets him with a nice combination. This hasn’t been a bad round for both men.

My Thoughts: A very close round, gotta give it to Frampton though.

Round Winner: Carl Frampton (10-9)

Round 5

Frampton back to his rapid jabs. He’s a jabber. He jabs with the left and hooks with the left, a vintage tactic made famous by Mike Tyson but he knocked people out with the left whereas Frampton’s lefts are more hooks for points. He hits a combination. Quigg goes for a body shot but doesn’t connect. Frampton hits a combo.

My Thoughts: Another good round for Frampton.

Round Winner: Carl Frampton (10-9)

Round 6

Quigg comes out with a few punches. Frampton lays low for body shots. Dangerous but nonetheless paying off. Frampton starting to land great shots. Frampton hits a great combination and Quigg quiggly clinches -never gets old! Frampton hits a nice right hand. Quigg goes for a little body shot.

My Thoughts: Framptom’s combinations are working extremely well.

Round 7

We see the two exchange body shots. Frampton with a quick jab or should I say a Qui- Frampton starts to get backed into a corner. Quigg hits a good right hook to the body. He’s starting to get more aggressive. Frampton lands a straight jab. He’s throwing more. Quigg has cornered Frampton against the ropes but he ducks and changes position - smooth stuff.

My Thoughts: Quigg is coming back.

Round Winner: Carl Frampton (10-9)

Round 8

Frampton lands early on. He hits a nice double jab, right cross. Quigg catches Frampton with a Q***g left hand. Really? You censor it?! Frampton goes for an uppercut but misses. Quigg lands an uppercut, Frampton is starting to counter punch Quigg. Frampton lands good near the end.

My Thoughts: Quigg wins this round as well.

Round Winner: Scott Quigg (10-9)

Score: Carl Frampton (88-83)

Round 10

Quigg hits a body shot early on, he’s definitely slowing Frampton down. Frampton hits a right hook. Frampton is starting to throw a combination and they exchange big body shots. Frampton hits another 1,2. Quigg continues to abuse the body of Frampton. Frampton goes for big shots but misses, Quigg is landing more.

My Thoughts: I’d say Quigg won this, he’s Quiggly (see what I did there?) catching up.

Round 11

Both men are Boxing really well here. Quigg hits a speedy right hand to the body. Frampton going for headshots and they’re lok8ng effective. However, are they as effective as Quigg’s body blows?
