Canelo Alvarez: The Boxing Record
You’d be mad to say that Canelo Alvarez isn’t one of the best boxers in the world right now and that’s because he’s beating everybody he’s fighting at the moment but is he the best boxer in the world right now? That’s debatable and I’m not talking about our series on the site. Canelo is a fantastic boxer so let’s go through his boxing record.
Canelo Alvarez made his professional debut against Abraham Gonzalez in Mexico. He dealt with Gonzalez by TKO and dispatched of him in the fourth round.
Canelo’s first fight outside of Mexico was against Larry Mosley when Canelo won by unanimous decision. He took his record to 22-0-1.
Canelo’s biggest test up to this point was undefeated boxer, Floyd Mayweather Jr. This PPV had 2 million PPV buys and the judges scores were 117-111, 116-112, 114-114. Mayweather won by unanimous decision.
Canelo Vs. Khan was a big fight and it generated a lot of hype especially in the UK. Canelo knocked Khan out in the sixth round.
Canelo Vs. Golovkin was a massive middleweight collision and it took place in 2016 where the result ended in a controversial draw which meant there had to be a rematch.
The rematch took place in September, 2018 and it ended with Canelo winning by unanimous decision. However, many people (myself included) thought the result was a little but controversial.
Canelo’s most recent fight was a few days ago and it was against Rocky Fielding where Canelo won with a 3rd round TKO and became WBA super middleweight champion.
