Can Dustin Poirier Pull It Off?

Picture
Next Saturday, Dustin Poirier has the opportunity of a lifetime and that’s a lightweight title fight against undefeated wrestler, Khabib Nurmagomedov. Nurmagomedov is a heavy favourite as he is 27-0 and has destroyed the majority of his opponents. Poirier has defeated Justin Gaethje, Eddie Alvarez, Anthony Pettis and Max Holloway in his 4 most recent fights and his boxing ability is one of the best on the whole roster but the question is, can Dustin Poirier pull it off?

I don’t think he can. I’m not saying this because I think he’s a bad fighter (which I don’t), I’m saying this due to just how good Khabib is. The diamond has good wrestling ability but it’s nothing compared to the wrestling skills of Khabib which are second to none. Do I think Poirier will get finished? No - I don’t think Poirier will get finished but I do think the score cards will read 50-45 in favour of Khabib Nurmagomedov when the night is over.

Does Dustin Poirier stand a chance? Yes. Poirier has shown that he is in the elite of the lightweight division as he’s defeated great fighters that include both Alvarez and Gaethje. The interim champion claims that he will finish the undisputed champion and that probably is his biggest shot at winning - knockout. He’s not doing to make Nurmagomedov submit, nobody will and I do think if Poirier can catch Nurmagomedov when he attempts a takedown, we may hear Bruce Buffer shout “and new”.
