Bellator 199 Review

Picture
I like Bellator, I enjoy the events they put on. Bellator 200 is right around the corner but before we get there, Bellator 199. The fights on paper looked good so can it live up to expectations? Let’s see the first fight.
Picture

Adam Piccolotti Vs. Carrington Banks (Lightweight)

Round 1: Banks gets a nice jab early on. Banks is hunting for the takedown and gets Piccolotti against the cage. This is a good position for Banks, he needs to adjust his body if he wants to take him down and he does just that. Piccolotti is desperately trying to get back up and he does so. Piccolotti gets a decent body kick but hasn’t damaged Banks too much if at all. Piccolotti gets a takedown and they’re in the centre. Banks is holding onto him and pulling Piccolotti towards him so Piccolotti can’t do anything. Piccolotti is dangerously close to locking in a rear naked. He almost does an arm bar but can’t get it.

My Thoughts: Entertaining round of MMA. Good round for both fighters.

Round Winner: Carrington Banks

Round 2: Banks starts this round strong with strikes ranging from leg kicks and body punches. Piccolotti goes for a takedown but nothing comes of it. Piccolotti takes Banks down with a side throw. He is in the back mount position and locks in a rear naked. This is bad for Carrington Banks.2 minutes, 40 left in the round. Banks gets out of it but Piccolotti throws shots on the ground. Piccolotti is going for the choke again but doesn’t get it this time.

My Thoughts: A good round, a dominant performance there by Piccolotti

Round Winner: Adam Piccolotti

Round 3: If that was a 10-8 round (which I think it was) Banks needs to do something big. Piccolotti has gotten on top of Banks again. He is looking to submit Banks. Piccolotti still has the advantage here in the last 50 seconds. He locks in the rear naked choke. Banks taps in the last 20 seconds.

Winner: Adam Piccolotti (Round 3; Submission)

Cheick Kong Vs. Javy Ayala (Heavyweight)

Round 1: Josh Rostenhal makes his return as the referee, liked him as the referee. They get in a few clinches but nothing big happens. Kongo hits a punch and Ayala goes down and Kongo finishes it for the win.

Winner: Cheick Kongo (Round 1; KO)
Picture

Aaron Pico Vs. Lee Morrison (Featherweight)

Round 1: Morrison doing good to start the fight. Pico hits Morrison with a right punch and knocks him down. Pico let’s Morrison back up. But Pico hits him with a clean left soon after and knocks him out. Well deserved win.

Winner: Aaron Pico (Round 1; TKO)
Picture

Paul Daley Vs. John Fitch (Welterweight)

Round 1: Daley is rocking the red gloves while Fitch rocks the blue. If there’s one fight on the card which will go the distance, this is most likely it. Fitch goes for a takedown but keeps pushing Daley against the cage. The referee finally gets them away from the wall. Daley gets some good punches and even a knee.

My Thoughts: Most of the fight was spent against the wall, bad stuff. Dayley got good damage.

Round Winner: Paul Daley

Round 2: And we’re immediately back to Fitch keeping Daley against the wall but now they’re on the ground, Fitch has the advantage by being on top but even thought Daley is in a worse position, he’s making it work. Fitch gets a few punches and one of Daley’s arms are trapped behind Fitch. This has definitely been Fitch’s round by far. He is trying to steer into a rear naked choke. Will he get it? I doubt it, they’re both in bad positions for it. Fitch is in sort of a back mount but not really while throwing punches. He goes into the top mount now. Round is better for Fitch.

My Thoughts: Fitch has found his plan.

Round Winner:John Fitch

Round 3: Immediate takedown by Fitch and he’s one again on the top of Daley’s back. Fitch is dropping some fists. Fitch throws hammer fists to end the round.

My Thoughts: A slow fight which was spent on the ground, it was okay. Good fight for John Fitch, Daley had the first round but couldn’t follow it.

Round Winner: John Fitch

Winner: John Fitch (Unanimous Decision)

Ryan Bader Vs. King Mo (Heavyweight Tournament; Round 1)

Round 1: Bader immediately gives King Mo a big right hand and finishes him!

Winner: Ryan Bader (Round 1; TKO)

Well, that was a fight. I hope King Mo leaves the heavyweight scene and drops down to Middleweight, but I don’t even know if that’s an option he’s considering. That was Bellator 199, Some fights were faster than others. Some fights were spent 95% on the ground and some fights were great to watch. Bellator 200 is later in the month, also since there’s not a UFC PPV this month, I’m going to review a flashback one.
