Anthony Joshua Vs. Wladimir Klitschko (Flashback Boxing Analysis)

Picture
Last April, Anthony Joshua had his biggest fight of his life - Wladimir Klitschko. Everybody and their dog was excited for this fight as it was (probably) the biggest heavyweight fight in 2017. This was one of my favourite boxing fights not just that year but of all time, both boxers looked so impressive and I’m looking forward to rewatching this classic!
Picture

Round 1

Klitschko trying to push Joshua back but Joshua hits a good jab. They clinch but the referee breaks it. Joshua hits a combination but it’s definitely not solid. Joshua hits a good left hook and a right. He’s getting good left jabs, these boxers are both power punches so you know it’s going to be good.

My Thoughts: a good opening round with some great punches throughout. They’re both trying to scout each other early on but that’s typical.

Round Winner: Anthony Joshua (Joshua: 10-9)

Round 2

Klitschko gets a good right jab in. Joshua gets some good combinations in which looks like a good start. Anthony Joshua getting some body jabs in which is like 3 a round so far. They will add up though and tire Klitschko out. Joshua is getting decent head punches. He’s great at time these punches. Klitschko gets some great punches towards the head. Joshua showing off fantastic footwork tonight.

My Thoughts: Another great round, Klitschko is looking quite impressive early on.

Round Winner: Wladimir Klitschko 10-9 (Draw: 19-19)
Picture

Round 3

Joshua getting some good punches in and starts the round off strong. Joshua gets a good uppercut and showing off the speed. Joshua hits a big right hand.

My Thoughts: It was a slower round but still entertaining so you can’t really complain.

Round Winner: Anthony Joshua 10-9 (Joshua 29-28)
Picture

Round 4

Klitschko hits an amazing overhand right which is the best punch so far. Bad start for Joshua, fantastic for Klitschko. Joshua gets a right hook which echoes throughout Wembley! Klitschko gets hit with a few body shots but it isn’t showing any damage as of yet. Joshua gets another big shot.

My Thoughts: I think Klitschko just won the round but it was quite close.

Round Winner: Wladimir Klitschko 10-9 (Draw: 38-38)
Picture

Round 5

Joshua brawls with Klitschko and this has turned into a playground scrap! Joshua unloads with punches and really damages the Ukrainian. He looks worried. Joshua knocks him down and he looks finished. Crumbled. Joshua gets great shots in. Klitschko retaliates with hits of his own but I don’t think it quite matches up. Klitschko has somehow damaged Joshua?!

My Thoughts: Jeezo. I was gonna give Joshua a 10-8 but can’t bring myself to do so.

Round Winner: Anthony Joshua 10-9 (Joshua: 48-47)

Picture

Round 6

Round 6: Joshua looks shattered. Likes he’s tired. Joshua’s mouth guard falls out but that’s easily repaired. Klitschko hits a beautiful right punch which Joshua falls down (quite delayed May I add). Klitschko goes to do some damage and almost falls out of the ring, that was a punch you’d throw at the boxing machine things. That was an explosive punch. My jaw wouldn’t withstand that but my jaw could barely survive a jaw breaker so that’s not saying a great deal. Joshua is hurt.

My Thoughts: What. A. Round.

Round Winner: Wladimir Klitschko (10-8) (Klitschko: 56-57)
Picture

Round 7

Joshua has recovered a little but and is shaken but is he stirred? On my scorecard, Klitschko is ahead with one point. Less punches in this round. Klitschko hits a decent jab. He landed it but it didn’t look over effective but that’s fine.

My Thoughts: A calmer round.

Round Winner:Wladimir Klitschko (10-9) (Klitschko: 65-67)

Picture

Round 8

Klitschko hits a combo to the side of Joshua’s head. It is absolutely crazy how Klitschko was 41 at this time and is looking good for being in the 8th round. Joshua hits a straight body punch. He’s getting more shots into Klitschko. Joshua gets a right punch right to Klitschko’s chin. Joshua gets big punches towards the remaining seconds.

My Thoughts: Another good round, good to see how these two are adapting.

Round Winner: Anthony Joshua (10-9) (Klitschko: 75-76)
Picture

Round 9

Klitschko bursts out the round with a punch, he’s not waiting around. Klitschko is more relaxed this round, most likely trying to get his breath back. Joshua getting good shots in now.

My Thoughts: A really close round.

Round Winner: Anthony Joshua (10-9) (Draw: 85-85)
Picture

Round 10

Joshua gets a good combination in this round, Klitschko hits an effective jab. Commentator mentioned how Fury wished Joshua good luck and if Joshua KO’s Klitschko, him and fury will go to war. I’m guessing they’re both conscientious objectors. Joshua gets a good punch but walks into a punch.

My Thoughts: Tough round to predict, good stuff.

Round Winner: Wladimir Klitschko (10-9) (Klitschko: 94-95)

Picture

Round 11

Joshua needs to win the next two rounds. Joshua comes out swinging and damages Klitschko, he is stripping away Klitschko and hits big hooks. Klitschko is running low on energy now. He hits a big uppercut and Klitschko is really hurt. He hits a combo and Klitschko goes down, he beats the count, though. Klitschko gets hit with another combo and goes back down, he’s beat another count. Klitschko is running out of space. Joshua hammers into him and the referee waves it off. Tony Bellew celebrates- he must have had a bet on.

What. A. Fight. That was one of my favourite fights in the past decade. I’ve been Josh from AllThingsCombat.com and I’ll be back soon.
