AEW Dynamite Review (January 23rd, 2020)
It's Part 2 of Bash at the Beach and this time, AEW is taking over the Chris Jericho Rock N' Wrestling Rager at Sea! AEW is sailing ship overseas and bringing the action along the way as we have a Championship Match with SCU defending their World Tag Team Championships against the duo of Hangman Adam Page and Kenny Omega! Another featured match to anticipate is Jon Moxley taking on pro wrestling's evil Basturd PAC in a #1 Contender's Match for the AEW World Championship! Bash at the Beach Part 2 looked to be a good show so what went down last night? Let's check it out!
SCU (C) Vs. Kenny Omega & Hangman Page (AEW Tag Team Championships)
Very good opening match! These teams didn't hold anything back as the championship golds were up for grasps. The main question going into this match was whether or not Hangman Page and Kenny Omega would coexist, and they sure did as they were able to be on the same page for a while. There was one mishap where Omega held up Scorpio Sky for Page to hit the Buckshot Lariat and Page does hit the move, but Sky moved out of the way at the last second and Omega took the hit! SCU were on point during this match as their chemistry was great as usual. Frankie Kazarian was outside of the ring in the crowd at one point where Adam Page literally dove onto him AND took out some on the crowd during the process! Scorpio Sky and Omega went at it for the remainder of the match and Sky looked to had Omega beat a couple times but Page would somehow find a way to break up the pinfalls. Omega would then nail Kazarian with a couple of V-Triggers, then tagged Page in and he hits one final Buckshot Lariat for the victory! Adam Page and Kenny Omega are the new AEW World Tag Team Champions!
Britt Baker Vs. Priscilla Kelly
Fine match for what it was. This was Priscilla Kelly's debut in AEW and she look good in this match as she showed a bit of her vicious wrestling style. Britt Baker would make a comeback and after a brief back and forth exchange, she got Kelly down to the mat and executed the Lockjaw for the submission win! Tony Schiavone went to go interview her in the ring after her win and I don't know what got under her skin but she started trash talking Tony and the fans! Fans chanted some profanity at her and she clapped back by calling them rude and them not being on the same level as her. She then continued to talk down on Tony but unfortunately I can't note the rest of it because a commercial break took place during the ordeal. This was out of nowhere but at the same time, it was time for Baker to turn because she had not been connecting with the fans for a while now. People weren't just into her as much as they are with other faces like the Women's Champion Riho and Kris Statlander and Hikaru Shida.
Jurassic Express Vs. The Inner Circle
Fun tag match as both teams displayed some good teamwork. Marko Stunt was all over the place as usual and I must say he performed some very unique maneuvers! Le Champion Chris Jericho was the most over man throughout this whole match and how could he not be honestly? He's the man who brought us the Rock N' Wrestling Rager! Luchasaurus was a beast as usual and had the match in his hands until Jake Hager came out and the two began brawling immediately. Jericho and Stunt would fight for the rest of the match and Marko almost had Jericho beat for a second, but then gets laid out with the Judas Effect and The Inner Circle picked up the win!
MJF Vs. Joey Janela
Standard match that honestly didn't feature too much things to note. MJF toyed with Janela for a bit like he always does with everyone, but Janela wasn't having any of that. Janela began bringing the fight to MJF and everything was going fine until Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford arrived on stage. The two began making out, distracting Janela in the process to the point where MJF came up from behind and performed the Double Cross for the win. Afterwards, MJF grabbed a microphone and began trash talking the fans. He then trash talked Cody and this was enough for the man himself to make an appearance to confront MJF! MJF stated that Cody couldn't touch him as they've agreed on it, then he drops his mic and made Cody reach for it while kicking it away. He goes to leave then Cody finally speaks as he states that he knows he can't touch MJF, but "they" can! MJF turns around and BAM, he's hit by two Superkicks from The Young Bucks! The two then drags him through the crowd and tosses him in a pool to the humiliation!
PAC Vs. Jon Moxley
Pretty solid main event as these two delivered all action for a chance to compete for the top championship! Jon Moxley was sporting some bandages over his right eye after the brutal assault from Chris Jericho last week. That came into affect in this match as he had trouble competing for half of the time, and PAC wasted no time in taking over because of it. Chris Jericho was on commentary for this match and he clearly did not want Moxley to win this bout as he had so much hatred towards the man. PAC almost had the match won with a Brutalizer attempt, but Moxley fought back like he always does and made a comeback. Moxley did hit the Paradigm Shift at one point but ended up being a near fall. After a few exchanges, Moxley hits another Paradigm Shift but this time he lifts PAC in the air and nails the move for the three count! Jon Moxley is officially the #1 Contender for the AEW World Championship and will battle Chris Jericho presumably at AEW Revolution!
