10 UFC Predictions For 2019

Picture
As 2019 approaches, it’s time to look back at the year of 2018 and what happened this year: Daniel Cormier became a double champion, Jon Jones & Conor McGregor returned and Demetrious Johnson’s record breaking title reign came crashing down, who would’ve predicted those things at the end of 2017?! Now it’s the end of 2018 and we’re going to make 10 predictions for 2019 - let’s do this.

10) Nate Diaz Will Return

Nate Diaz was suppose to fight on the UFC 230 - Madison Square Garden card but unfortunately Dustin Poirier had to pull out leaving Diaz to not fight and will head into 2019 without fighting since the defeat to Conor McGregor.

I definitely do believe that Nate Diaz will fight in 2019 and I also believe that his brother, Nick will fight. I hope both Diaz brothers fight in 2019 as they’re both great fighters.

9) Conor Vs. Nate 3

And speaking about Nate Diaz, I think 2019 is the year we finish the Conor McGregor Vs. Nate Diaz trilogy and I really hope it happens as the hype would be insane.

The fight would be unpredictable too and would do brilliant in PPV buys. I want to see Conor and Nate fight different people before they conclude their epic rivalry like Diaz Vs. Gaethje and McGregor Vs. Poirier and if they both win, they get this trilogy.

8) Anderson Silva Will Retire

I believe that it’s only a matter of time before Anderson Silva hangs up his fingerless gloves. He will go down as an all time great and if he loses to upcoming Israel Adesanya at UFC 234 then that’d be a perfect time for him to retire.

I don’t see him winning this fight and if he loses then I don’t see who there’s left to fight, better to leave now than to lose to unranked opponents after Adesanya.

7) Zabit Magomedsharpidov Will Get A Title Shot

Zabit Magomedsharpidov is a fantastic fighter and his grappling skills is superb! This man is the future of the Featherweight division and I think this time next year, he’ll get a title shot against the champ. Zabit might fight in around April time against somebody like Chad Mendes or Jose Aldo and then I think it’s the prime time for Zabit to fight for the strap.

You would expect Magomedsharpidov to be good anyway as he trains with UFC Lightweight Champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov. Zabit is going to have an interesting 2019 so do keep an eye out for him.

6) The Ultimate Fighter Will Stop

At one point, the Ultimate Fighter saved the UFC but I think it’s time we put it out of its misery as it hasn’t really been relevant for a few years now and it’s doing more bad than good.

I liked the Ultimate Fighter but it feels like the UFC is just doing it for the sake of doing it and even does 2 seasons a year which feels like too much. 2019 will most likely be the end of the Ultimate Fighter.

5) UFC Signs With DAZN

It would feel weird if the UFC decided to sign with DAZN but I see it happening despite UFC fight pass. Whether you like DAZN or you despise DAZN, you have to admit; it’s the future of combat and DAZN USA is All Things Combat -pun kinda intended.

DAZN USA already has deals with both Bellator MMA & Matchroom boxing which are both big promotions in their own respect but add UFC to the mix? It’d be unstoppable.

4) Ben Askren Will Walk Through The Welterweight Division

Ben Askren. Some people love him, some people love to hate him - oh hello Cameron from AllThingsCombat.com! Askren is a fantastic fighter and I see him proving that in 2019 and will keep his record intact.

Do I see him getting a title shot in 2019? It’s not impossible but I don’t think he will. I see him fighting Lawler in March and maybe somebody like Stephen Thompson or Colby Covington in October/November. Either way, he’ll remain undefeated.
Picture

3) Cain Velasquez Will Make An IMPACT

The next 3 entries are connected. Velasquez is kinda confirmed that he will fight Ngannou in February which I’m really looking forward to and so is the rest of the MMA community. Anyway, I see him winning this fight in destructive fashion as after all, it’s Cain Velasquez.
Picture

2) Brock Lesnar Will Return

2019 is going to be a big year for UFC and more importantly it’s heavyweight division. You’ve got Daniel Cormier, Stipe Miocic, Francis Ngannou, Curtis Blaydes, Cain Velasquez (possibly) and the return of Brock Lesnar. I see Lesnar fighting in 2019 and better yet, he’s headline UFC 235 against heavyweight champion, Daniel ‘DC’ Cormier.

Win or lose, Lesnar will fight again and there’s only one name.

1) Cain Velasquez Vs. Brock Lesnar: The Rematch.

This is a long shot and a big IF. Let’s break it down. Brock Lesnar could beat Cormier and become UFC Heavyweight Champion. Cain Velasquez could beat Francis Ngannou and at UFC 242 or something we could see the rematch between Velasquez and Lesnar.

This is an extreme long shot but it could happen and I see this fight happening, belt or not.
